I was in the mood to re read your Mag series this morning for some reason. I think all the Christmas baking going on was the nudge for that to happen. ;o) Anyway, I started going through your other stories and that brought me to this.

This is so, so lovely Ann. I can imagine Eowyn discovering that side to Denethor and the surprise it would create. After all, she only knew what he was like through Faramir and others who knew him and that would have been as a very dour and severe person. To imagine him full of passion and young...It's always a shock to discover that our Parents or Parents In Law were once young and chasing after someone else. :o)

Then to see the sketches and also the various notations. How many others have had similar advice they wanted to keep handy/nearby when starting out their lives?

I wonder if Eowyn shared the book w/Faramir?

This really, really was lovely and what a gift to her Daughter in Law Finduilas unknowngly left behind.

Thanks for sharing it w/us!!

Oh and a Very Merry Christmas to you and yours from me and mine!!! (((HUGS)))

Author Reply: What a wonderful surprise - you simply cannot imagine how this brightened my day. I'm so pleased to hear that folks are still reading the Mag stories, and exploring a bit further, too. I really appreciate your taking the time to let me know you enjoyed this. Best wishes to you and your family, as well.

This is so utterly beautiful! I love your descriptions; you have this way of making things come to life in a very realistic way.

I'm writing a paper on fanfiction for one of my college classes, and I was wondering if it might be possible to use this as an example. If that's okay with you, please let me know. If not, no worries. Thanks!

Author Reply: Oh my heavens! You can't be serious!*faints*

First off, thank you for your kind words, which mean the world to me. Of course I'm flattered, and thrilled, that you would want to use my story. By all means use it, if it is helpful; and I'd be quite interested in reading your paper as well.

Wow! thank you!

OOOOOooooohhhhh! That's beautiful, Annmarwalk. I just hope she shares it with Faramir, too.

Author Reply: Thank you for you kind words!
I think she will share it, eventually - it would be unkind not to - but she will treasure it herself for a little while, like a secret note.

What a lovely story - and the timing, near Mother's Day, is perfect. I like the details of Finduilas' sewing tools, and her drawings, the time-twisting juxtaposition of the picture of sleeping baby Faramir and Eowyn's knowledge of the him, now adult, and how he looks asleep...

Author Reply: Thank you, thank you! It was meant as a birthday gift, but as I wrote, it did become a nice tribute to mothers in general. And thank you for catching the bit about the drawing - that actually appeared very early in the draft, and I wrote much of it towards that end - something I don't usually do.

Oh, Annmarwalk, how I thank you for this beautiful gift!

Not only is this beautifully written and a lovely picture of Eowyn and Finduilas, but it touched a very personal chord for me as I'm in the process of going through fabrics and unfinished projects of my own mother's. It also reminds me of the lovely sewing items left by my mother-in-law and her mother.

Such sweet, tender memories! Bless that housekeeper!

And bless you as well,
Mum

Author Reply: Your kind words warmed my heart - I'm so glad that this story has such a personal meaning for you!

Oh, Ann--in such a short work you have managed to capture pathos, love, the need for continuity, the love of mother for children, the hint of the love she felt for her lord husband.

A wonderful means of giving the new Steward's Lady a glimpse of her predecessor, so long gone, so well beloved.

Very beautiful.

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I had great joy in writing it, not only thinking of lovely Finduilas and her daughter of the heart, Eowyn; but also my own mother, and other women who have meant much to me.

That's lovely! What a wonderful idea to show Finduilas by her possessions. And then the link with Eowyn is nicely drawn, as she assumes the role of woman of the house. Beautiful story.

Author Reply: Thank you so much. I enjoyed imagining the small details of Finduilas's life in ways that would have been particularly meaningful to Eowyn. How they would have enjoyed each other's company!
