Gimli makes a good minder for Pippin. And I love his story. Which doesn't, by any chance, suggest that elves are a bit shallow - and too overwhelmed by surface appearances, does it? The First Born valued the work of our minds and hands, yet they did not value us. Immortals ought to be rather more discerning! And the beauty stone being shared between Pippin, Merry and Gimli is very symbolic. They seem to have a bond, those three. Author Reply: Hehehehe Even Tolkien knew them to be a bit full of themselves, but then again, so are the Dwarves and the Numenorians. And actually, even our furry footed hobbit friends. 'Tis a flaw that has always been with this old world, but yes, one would have liked to hope, after their own mess ups, that the Elves would have been less shallow ;) Yes, I felt it proper that Gimli would share this with one of the hobbits, and that Pip would want it shared with Merry. Thank you so much for reading and responding :)

Oh, how beautiful. I do think the relationship between the Hobbits and Gimli are quite special, and you wrote this short story really well. :) Author Reply: Thank you, for both reading this tale but also for the kind response :)

I love Gimli! And there really are not too many stories about with him serving as a central character. This one is very special, especially since Pippin is the other character and Gimli seemed to take care to watch out for that young hobbit! Gimli's story to Pippin is a very personal one for him to tell (I would think he didn't tell it often). I always loved the fact that Iluvatar took pity, not only on Aule, but on the dwarves he had created, and let them live. The idea of a Beauty Stone is a perfect way for telling a story with the lesson "you shouldn't judge a book by its cover" :-). I love rocks (have quite a collection for my class at school) and my favorite is an amethyst geode! They are, indeed, Beauty Stones! I'm glad, too, that Pippin decided to share his with Gimli and Merry! Wonderful story! linda Author Reply: Thank you so much :) I also enjoy Tolkien's understanding of forgivness and grace. I also love rocks and have fossils, geodes, semiprecious gems and other fun rocks and minerals here and there throughout my home :) Thank you for reading and responding :)

Well, I'm happy to see it up here once more! As always, you work your magic with hobbits--and Gimli, too! I loved the spiritual angle, that even Dwarfs have a spiritual side to them. Thank you so much for sharing your Middle-earth! Pippinfan Author Reply: Thank you for reading - and re-reading - and re-responding! You are welcome, m'dear.

I love it pearl! Such a good characterazation (sp?) of the hobbit and the dwarf. I really enjoyed the described couging fits.... you do that well... experience, perhaps? :D Author Reply: Thank you :) No, fortunately no experience at the coughing other than run of the mill colds. I'm glad they were well done though ;)

Ah, yes. *happy sigh* This is an absolutely lovely story, layers upon layers just as with the Beauty Stone. Thank you so much for letting me include it in the collection. Your characterisation of Gimli rings so true. Why, he's a bit of a Beauty Stone himself, isn't he? All rough and gruff on the outside and sparkling on the inside. Author Reply: Yes, indeed he is :) Most of us are a mystery, a gem waiting to be discovered. Thank you for reading this yet again!

I am guessing that when you hid this, my original review went away and so I am replacing it with this one. I love this! The minute it was back up here, I read it again. I also loved it in the story that you and others are writing with Lindelea. But, either way, it's a terrific story and your Gimli is perfect! Author Reply: Well . . . not when I hid it. But when I un-hid it I found it doesn't return to the main pages, just shows up on my list. As it hadn't been up that long first time, I wanted it to have a fair chance at getting noticed, so I deleted it and reposted - that lost the other reviews. Thank you so much for that concern and for reading it so many times :o You are too kind, thank you :)
