An Unexpected Guest  by Dreamflower 6 Review(s)

Grinning ear to ear -- thank you so much for sending me the link!

I love the Ranger's understanding, his immediate grasp of the family relationship Ilbie lays out.

And this: “I’m turning into a hobbit, already,” he muttered to himself.

Quite a common malady, I trow.

Author Reply: Yes, so far as I'm concerned hobbits are pretty much infectious! ;)

Mellor's been watching the Shire for a while, and he's got a pretty good grasp of things!

Oh! I didn`t read all the challenge stories but I`m glad you`ve put this here so I can enjoy it! I like your Mellor. It`s fun to see how he gently handles the tiny utensils. Makes me think of a Troll in a human place, everything is too little, lol. I liked this very much!

I figured if the hobbits had a hard time when they were out in the rest of the world, then the other way around would hold true, and Men would have to cope with everything being too small, LOL!

Very wonderfully told, Dreamflower; agree with the beginning realization that Frodo is not well, and Will is feeling overwhelmed, and love the way the situation is unfolding. Like Ilberic myself!

Author Reply: Yes, this takes place in my chronology just a few weeks after the delegation left, and just a few weeks before Frodo resigns as Deputy Mayor. I think that Will would have liked to have kept Frodo on, but it was just not feasible. At this point Frodo is beginning to distance himself from the job.

I kind of like Ilberic. He's one of the few canon cousins younger than Pip, though not by much, and in one of my other stories I had a little throwaway bit about Pippin teaching him the shepherd's pipes.

Well-crafted, as usual!

“I’m turning into a hobbit, already,” he muttered to himself.
(This was good for a chuckle in the middle of all the seriousness.)

Thanks!

Author Reply: I always think that must be the effect hobbits have on Big Folk. I mean they have that effect on *me*, and I've never actually met one (unless you count the Pepsi Saga, LOL!)

Another new story! Now I have two to look forward to the updates :-)

Poor Mellor, I wonder how he was injured. Hopefully the ruffians who killed Ted haven't anything to do with it, it would mean trouble for the Shire, I fear. But then, with two Rangers, Merry and Pippin they aren't so defenceless any longer ... and poor Eradan, waiting in vain and not knowing what has happened! I hope Merry and Pippin go to look for him.
Loved it how apprehensive Mellor was after he knew where he was - without permission. As if he had anything to say about it! And his struggle with the tiny dishes was nice.

Can't wait for more!

Author Reply: Well, I've another chapter up now!

The Shire's definitely not helpless anymore, and Merry and Pippin are only a part of that.

It just seemed to me it might be difficult to eat with hobbit sized dishes. Kind of like a grown up playing with a child's sized tea set.

Interesting. Can't wait to see where this goes. And I loved Ilbie's confession that there were lots of hobbits waiting to keep watch on the Ranger, lol. Poor guy must feel like the main event.

Author Reply: Yes, I think after the visits of the King's Men in the spring, that the young hobbits of Buckland have a serious case of hero worship going for the Rangers. They'd take any chance they could get to spend time with him.
