^_________^ CUTE! I love Pip's retelling of the "incident" and how Merry keeps interrupting. I think it's funny how Pippin is so indignant that they punished him - after all, he didn't do anything, did he? It was all Fendon's fault. I hope Sam doesn't feel too guilty. Very good work, thanks. Author Reply: Poor innocent Pippin, the sacrificial lamb, lol. ^_^ All he was doing was sitting there, minding his own business... Hm, wonder how many times he's used that defense throughout the years. :D Merry's mind is constantly racing ahead and trying to figure out things, which inevitably causes him to interrupt. Sam won't feel too guilty. It was Pippin's fault for eating both the cinnamon rolls at once, whether he sees that or not.

Guilt can work wonders, I think. ADHD in hobbits. Very apt. Author Reply: ADHD in Pippin. Very scary, lol. Hyper doesn't begin to describe that hobbit. Poor Eglatine for having to put up with him all those years. Sam won't be feeling too guilty about this, though he might let Pippin think he is for a little while to make him feel better. After all, Pippin did breach their contract and really has no one to blame but himself.

Ooooh!!! Thank you! What a wonderful, wonderful birthday present! I just adore this. And it makes so much sense! One of my favorite parts: “Ah, yes. My parents were always sending you to get me, and your parents would send Frodo, and we never saw the trickery in it. Not until we had our own children who wouldn’t listen to us, and even then I didn’t see it. It wasn’t until around the hundredth time I had sent Fenton out to grab Faramir in that I realized what I was doing,” Pippin added. “Parents are devious things.” So true, so true! And I was chortling all through their serious discussion of the lads' experiment--you could just tell this was something they probably wished they had thought of themselves when they were young. And then the discussion of the Aunts, and when Merry asked was it the time he mooned them, well, ROTFL! And the whole story was just too, too funny! Thank you again so much!!!! Author Reply: You're most welcome, sweetie. ^_^ Yep, Merry and Pippin have finally been bested - by their own kids, no less. I'm sure they'll be getting tons of kicks out of their children's hijinx over the years. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in the future, they con their grandkids into finishing that expirement, lol. :D Those poor aunts have put up with a lot from the lads of Tookland, I almost feel sorry for them. Almost. One of these days, I'm going to have to put that mooning incident into fic-format. It'll have to be from Pip's POV too; he's just too good at telling these stories of mishap. And it'll be Drunken!Pip. Oh, that should be interesting. grins

I love the way these have just cottoned on to their parents' own child management skills. And the 50 year old Pippin has only just realised that his parents were in on Sam's game. Their use of cousin-power is masterly, though. As it should be. They haven't quite outgrown the curiosity that makes them want to play - but they have developed enough sense not to do so in front of their wives! Is Sam still manageable through guilt? I would have thought he might have enough Mayoral steel to disregard it by now. Those aunts sound a scary pair. Author Reply: Yep, it takes Pippin awhile to catch on sometimes, lol. At the time, he was more focused on, first, how incredibly lucky he was that Sam would that for him, and after, on how horribly crushed he was that he'd be getting no more sweets. We never realize while growing up that our parents were once children also, and already know every prank in the book long before we "invented" them. Now that Merry and Pippin know the truth of the matter, they'll no doubt be looking back on everything with new sight. Cousin-power is pretty powerful indeed. Where would all these poor parents be if their kids didn't have older cousins to worship and take commands from, lol. Merry and Pippin will never outgrow their curiosity. I imagine them goading their grandkids into all sorts of pranks and bad behavior. Sam does have a harder shell on him than he used to, not just from being Mayor but also from having so many children - you can't let a mob like that have their way all the time! But guilt will always pester at Sam to one extent or another, though I'm sure he'll figure out rather quickly that Pippin's just joking with him and there's really no hard feelings about it. Hm, The Aunts vs the Orcs... I'd put my money on the Aunts, lol!
