Hi Grant,It's up to you whether you want to post all the cthapers. It may be best to only post the chapter you intend to read and give a quick recap of the events leading up to this chapter. That way folks won't be confused. If you simply want to e-mail the chapter to everyone and not leave it on the web, then copy and paste it into Mail Subscribers on the Dashboard. A copy will go out to everyone, but it won't save to the website. Cheers,Laurel

This chapter was full of lovely moments! Yes, the notion of hobbits being mistaken for children *can* be rather humorous, but understandably disconcerting for them. Having Legolas "show" himself in order to convince the matron that Beri and Viola were not children, was fantastic on your part. btw, I do like romances, so I am quite interested in Beri and Viola's romantic endeavors! ;-) Good old Freddy! He's coming right along in overcoming his fear of deep bodies of water. He's going to make it as a world-class leader. :-) Thank you for such a wonderful chapter/story! Pippinfan Author Reply: This was another of those moments I had planned as soon as I knew I would be doing the sequel--that somewhere along the journey, one or more of the hobbits would be mistaken for a child. But it wasn't until I was writing this part that I realized this was the perfect setting for it. And of course, as she was trying to intimidate the hobbits, Legolas felt justified in intimidating her a bit. It was kind of fun having him gently but firmly put her in her place. I am having a good deal of fun with the Berilac/Viola romance. Unlike Merry/Estella and Pippin/Diamond, I am not in the least constrained by canon, so I can do with them as I will. *bwahahaha* But I'm basically an old softy, so any bumps along their way will probably be rather gentle. Freddy has always had it in him to be a good leader, as he proved during the Troubles. And now it is going to come out and let him shine. I'm glad you are enjoying it. You are almost catching up to me!

Go Freddy! That is brave of him and good of Beri to notice as something brave too, Brandybuck that he is. I love Legolas`saying about the hobbits, of course they`re his friends, lol! He`s such a sweet elf. And very on time too, it seems. He came just at the nick of time to save Beri and Viola. That woman could have made quite a bit of trouble for them. Author Reply: Freddy is a very brave hobbit, he just has not really come to appreciate his own bravery yet. What a nice thing to say: Legolas is sweet! I certainly think so, yet that is not the usual adjective you hear about an Elf, LOL! She certainly could have given them a hard time for a while. I think of her as being just a little bit like Lobelia--bossy, and nosy, and trying to make herself more important than she really was.

Somehow I fell a chapter behind which gives me a chance to read two in a row. My lucky night! I loved how Legolas took charge in this chapter. He really must see them all as children and he is very protective of his 'children'. Freddy was very brave in spite of it all and Legolas did a wonderful job of helping him through it without drawing unnecessary attention to his fears. Author Reply: Yes, really to an Elf, all mortals must seem as children to them. But he is definitely protective of his hobbits. I'm growing quite fond of Legolas, actually.

I love how Legolas is finding it comfortable traveling with Hobbits once more, and speaks of them naturally as friends; and at how he assists Freddy in the crossing of the bridge. For one with a phobia toward water, that must have been terrible. Author Reply: I think that Legolas enjoyed travelling with the hobbits during the Quest, and grew to love them very much. I am sure it would not take much for him to feel the same about these hobbits as well, especially since they are kin and friends to "his" hobbits. Freddy's phobia is very much towards the *crossing* of running water, and he has determined he is going to come to grips with it...

In Tharbad they aren't used to Hobbits, that is obvious. It must have been quite a shock to Viola and Berilac. What a luck Legolas was there to help them! Freddy was quite brave. But you know, all the talking about rain and rivers and all ... *looks suspiciously* ... what have you planned? Author Reply: Yes, I think Viola and Berilac were quite taken aback. Legolas has excellent timing. Freddy is quite brave, isn't he? *la la la la la*looks up innocently*planned? me?*la la la la la....

LOL, the hobbits need to get shirts that say "I'm not a child, I'm a hobbit. Ask me how." :D Good thing Legolas came around when he did. I suspect, though, once they get to Gondor, where people are a little more familiar with hobbits, it might not be as much of a problem. Author Reply: I'll have to check Cafe Press and see if they have such T-shirts, LOL! No, the actual mistaking of them for children will probably not be much of a problem, especially in the White City, though it may occur briefly from time to time when someone doesn't look closely enough; the Gondorians will be well aware of the presence of pheriannath among them. But what they will still have to be wary of with folk who only know them by their appearance is the tendency to *treat* them as children, even thought they know they are not. Definitely good timing on Legolas' part!

Oh, I loved the description of Freddy crossing the river! What a scary bridge! I also like Legolas, and his rescue and conversation with Beri and Viola : ) Almost time!! Author Reply: Since Tharbad is a recent settlement, I envision the bridge as a somewhat primitive structure, only a few steps up from being a ford. Legolas does like to take care of his hobbits. Just one or two more chapters. *grin* Have I put in enough foreshadowing?

Hobbits might look like children at first glance, but the woman was very unobservant not to notice the difference when she actually looked at them. 'I heard you laughing and plotting!' Talk about making assumptions! But people are like that, aren't they? Kids must be plotting evil things - and any group of young people out on their own must be looking for trouble. Introduce ASBOs*! And curfews! I loved Legolas Thranduilion, Prince of Mirkwood, coming to their rescue in his full elven glory. Nicely intimidating by suggestion only. Freddy was very brave crossing the river. Very brave. And might have to be braver yet! *ASBOs = anti-social behaviour orders. Author Reply: *giggle* Yes, she was fairly unobservant, jumping to just the conclusion she wanted to--I saw her as a certain type of nosy busybody. She saw two strange "children" in "her" small town, and decided to assert an authority she probably does not have in order to assuage her curiousity and perhaps have a chance to ream out the supposed parents, thus puffing herself up more. I envision her as a sore trial to her poor son the blacksmith, LOL! You will notice I did not give her a name--she's one of those aggressive OCs that would have taken over the chapter if I let her! Legolas does not usually assert his Elven glory, but when he does he is formidable, and needs nothing more than suggestion to get his point across. And someone interfering with *his* hobbits is going to get the full force of his "suggestion". Freddy was very brave indeed, and yes, his bravery will have further trial to come...

This had me giggling! Loved the idea that Beri and Viola would be mistaken for children, and I'm not surprised that Legolas' majestic appearance had the desired effect. Leggy turning up the power a bit must be very impressive. :-)) Oh how brave of Freddy - he is really discovering things about himself, isn't he? Hopefully he will be more confident now - and I hope he doesn't have a disaster as a result. He's been through more than enough already. Great chapter, Dreamflower! Author Reply: I knew sooner or later on this journey that one or more of the hobbits were going to be mistaken for a child. It was not until I finished the last chapter, though, that I realized this was the perfect place for it to occur. Legolas does know how to shift into Impressive Elven Prince when he needs to, he just doesn't care to do it very often. Freddy is determined to not let his fear keep him from what he has to do. As to disaster--this is only chapter 16, you know...
