I see I'm not the only one who saw this method of warming Frodo then as being used. Beautiful, Cuthalion, both the current tale and the memories. And rubbing chillblained limbs with snow has been used for a long time, although a tepid bath may be more effective. Wonderful tale. Author Reply: And somehow it is one my favorites - not the genre I usually write, but it came from a challenge of a very good friend, the premise was not too simple (to ind a way to write a scene where Merry and Pippin strip tp warm Frodo without any "slashy" undertones), and it was enourmous fun. What a sweet story! I admit, I couldn't pause to leave a review after the first chapter but had to go right on to read the second. I remember my brother telling me the Eskimo's remedy for half-frozen travellers, just as you describe it in chapter two. You are aware, I'm sure, that rubbing frostbite with snow, as used to be the common remedy, actually does more harm than good, and the remedy recommended today is gradual warming? You might put an author's note in, to that effect, just so that some reader someday doesn't try the remedy, not remembering where they read it! (BTDT--in one of the "Little House" books, Almanzo Wilder rubs his frozen feet with snow... and for some time, until I took a class in First Aid, I thought that was what you were *supposed* to do!) Author Reply: Really? Funny enough I happened to come home on a winter's day with numb, ice cold feet when I was a child, and I tried warm water to feel better - which caused a biting pain that I still remember after more than 30 years. And I sat in our bathtub, crying and frightened, and my mother did exactly what Frodo did, with good success. And as my husband pointed out, the "snow therapy" was for years and years seen as the best opportunity to help... probably also among hobbits. Ah well... I'm very glad that you like my tale, even with this little flaw!

Really sweet and beautifully written. Lovely tale for a winter night or a summer day. Author Reply: *laughs* I actually wrote it on a hot summer day, drinking glass after glass of iced pepsi... which was a challenge, because I had to imagine how those poor boys felt under the tree to make the whole thing believable. I'm glad that I succeeded!
