I love the humour infused into your first paragraph, and here: "Hah," Pippin said dizzily. "I had it just where I wanted it. It only looked like I was losing." Goodness, Merry angst! (it's hard to come by well-written Merry angst, but you're doing beautifully) Did Boromir truly not read Elvish? I had some sort of idea that the Gondorians' names were Sindarin, and so I thought perhaps they'd know the language as well. But I'm not all that clear on the topic. In any event, though he might be well-versed in battlefield medicine, he might not know what to do when confronted with a full-fledged medical kit. Looking forward to the next chapter! Author Reply: I love writing Pippin ... he is made up of my nephews and nieces and younger friends and dim memories of being that age. Which is probably why he gets into so much trouble. *cough* And if you are enjoying the Merry-angst, you'll love chapter ten! Re the question on the elvish influence in Gondor, I always thought it had waned by then and elves and their culture were only a dim memory. Remember the sensation Elrond made, when he brought Arwen to be wed? Even if not, I cannot see Boromir learning Elvish ... Faramir, being Mithrandir's pupil, might have but not Boromir... Isn't it fun to spectulate on? :D

Clever Frodo; steadfast other Hobbits, true companions, and concerned Boromir as he tries to figure out what to do next. Wonderfully wrought! Author Reply: *purrs and rubs against Larner's ankles* Thank you! I'm so glad you are enjoying this!

Elvish - that's smart, when only about half of them can read it. Just when we think things can't get any worse, Merry's life is now in danger. I love your Merry/Boromir friendship. Boromir has really warmed up to the hobbit and I love that he looked to Merry for approval when he found the air vent. It's good to see that the soldier isn't beyond enjoying praise, but then, hobbits have that effect on people, don't they? Good thing Frodo had that sling shot. His use his hobbit sense and "magic" to fool the goblins shows just how well their simple approaches to solving problems work. Author Reply: GamgeeFest, that was a very wise comment about hobbits 'having that effect on people.' Yes, absolutely. They bring out the best in Big Folk, without trying, without conniving. I have read Boromir written as a evil man so many times that I suppose I go the other way, and try to show him as he must have been before being corrupted by the Ring. I am certain that by the end of his life, he must have loved all the hobbits.

Oh, definitely! Now we are getting back into hobbit abuse! First Pip, then Frodo, now Merry! Hurray for hobbit angst! :D Author Reply: 'Hobbit abuse? *tries to look indignant and failing at that, ties to look innocent* Terrible things do seem to happen to hobbits in my fics. Odd, as I truly love them so much. They are just so much more interesting when they are being abused ... as opposed, to say ... a happy summer day on a picnic. Just before they are attacked by wolves. During an earthquake. There I go again...
