wow what a great chapter~ this is a very interesting story and i'm sorry i didn't get to it earlier, but this chapter was one of my favorites! I really liked your idea of having Frodo deliver this very important message to Aragorn and for giving such wonderful foreshadowing to the Great War of the RIng times. Very nice use of canon details too. Great job, SB!

This was sooo cool!!! Love the trees speaking through Frodo and their safe guarding the pin. Aragorn is so noble and Bilbo so wise. Wonderful!!!!

“Deep roots are not reached by the frost, eh? I’ll have to remember that.” I love the way you've introduced that line to Bilbo. I'm guessing Frodo will remember very little of this adventure, so when he encounters that phrase again, it won't ring any bells with him. It's wonderful how the trees have guarded their secret all these many years, but they've finally found the 'Man of the West' to reveal it to, and the perfect hobbit to act as medium for them. :D

Oh Shirebound, don't say your stories aren't surprising! You did it again :) Now, I thought something evil would happen, for all that I've ever heard of the Old Forest was evil. But now you've convinced me that there is indeed something good in the dark Old Forest. And Aragorn creates a new bond between the trees and the race of Men. I like this idea! I don't think Frodo will remember what the trees said through him. But after all, the Ranger pin is his now, and when he's recovered he will ask Aragorn about it, I'm sure. What will he answer, I wonder?

Bilbo's Aragorn verses are quotes from the Old Forest! *loves* I'm so glad to see all the kingdoms (including plant) fighting the forces of evil. Loved Bilbo's hankies (he learned his lesson well!) and Aragorn carrying Frodo. I love your exploring canon characters without throwing their relationships out of balance. Does this fic have to end?

How marvellous to have the trees speak through Frodo - gave me chills (good ones). I just wish there were more like Aragorn these days, to teach respect for all living things. *sigh* This is a lovely story, Shirebound. I'm really enjoying it.

Wow...Simply wow!! So, the trees did know what Aragorn was. I loved his pledge to the trees. That if he did come into his own, he would make sure to teach Men to treasure and safeguard nature. How sad that heritage seems to be forgotten in this throwaway age. :o( Oh and "Deep roots are not reached by the frost" and Bilbo saying he'd have to remember that. Hee!! Loved that reference to Bilbo's poem for Aragorn. You did an amazing job of Frodo being the conduit for the trees to let Aragorn know why they had been brought back to the Old Forest. That can be tough to write, (I'm also a Trekkie, tried to write a story where Counselor Troi was used in much the same way, but it completely sucked!! Anyway...) but you did it in a very believable way. Frodo and Aragorn are the two non Elven characters in LOTR where something like this is a believable thing to happen and even Aragorn has Elvish blood. Very, very well done!! After all this, they all need some comforting and cuddling. May I aid and comfort Aragorn? :oD Can't wait for more of this!!

So, inspiration for the Riddle of Aragorn came from the trees of the Old Forest, eh? And Aragorn is now pledged to promote ecology and the needs of forests? Nicely done.
