Many Paths to Tread  by Citrine 7 Review(s)

Yes, Merry loves his special cousins, older and younger, misses the former, rejoices in the younger, and delights in both.

Aww...so sweet :) Merry is so kind; I felt so sorry for him when he began to cry while telling the story! Crying is *not* just for babies and lasses, Meriadoc! At least little Pippin was there to remind him he was still in the good of things, adorable story, Citrine. :)

I love this story, and I have put it on my Recs Page this week! Little Pippin making his way to the head of the bed, and his baby-voice "Ponna time" were just wonderful! Merry was lovely too! I really enjoyed this glimpse of the little cousins!

I am pretty sure though that Merry was seven when Frodo left....

Author Reply: Annnd, you're right:o) Lindelea pointed that out, too, so I gave myself a headslap, went to Encyclopedia of Arda and looked it up just to be sure. Yup. Should be fixed now. And thank you *very* much for the rec, btw. Hee! *Blushy-happy-face*

I followed the link from Marigold's Recommendations to this, and thoroughly loved it.Little 'nappy' bottomed Pippin! I melted into a puddle right there. Pippin's baby 'voice' was so sweet. His adoration of Merry shined through, and Merry's fondness for this interferring little bundle of baby-hobbit shone right back. And yet there was such a thread of grief in the story, expressed in Merry's story. I know I have said it before of your writing ... but you write beautifully. Just beautifully and with such trueness of emotion.

Pippin's line, "Ponna time," made me laugh out loud. I could just hear a very tiny child saying that. This was so sweet.

Oh this is perfectly wonderful, and *just* what I was in the mood for, after writing a bit of my own fluff! You brought tears of joy to my eyes, and made me grin.
Absolutely perfect from start to finish.

Author Reply: This is such a funny coincidence, because I just finished reading *your* fluff, and I came in here thinking 'Hey, that was really good, Dreamflower's fluff puts mine in the shade', Lol! Ahahaha! Fluff envy! But seriously, I guess we both felt the need for some fluff, after the events of the last couple of days. Thanks for reading, Dreamflower:oD

I gots lots of favourite bits and one possible little nit-pick.

Favourite bits first:
The effects were startling and spectacular.
Pippin's feet were, as always, colder than a Goblin's hindquarters
Merry searched his mind for something terribly dull that might quickly bore a little hobbit into a stupor
"Ponna time," Pippin whispered, and snuggled close. Even a little hobbit knew good stories started with those words.
"Only babies and lasses cry."
(and gardeners)

(going on nine years? I thought he was seven when Frodo went away. I'm a nit-picker, you know. Got a reference? If you're right about "going on nine" I need to go back and change a story of mine.)

Author Reply: No, no, you're absolutely right: He was seven. (Thank you, Encyclopedia of Arda.) I was just getting the age he was close to in my story here mixed up with his canon age when Frodo was adopted. D'oh. Sleepy, er, sloppy research rears its ugly head. Guess I'll go fix that:o)
