Pippin is now able to return the care lavished on him all these years, and isn't only a careless lad. Very nice, SlightlyTookish. Author Reply: Thanks, Larner! Pippin (as I've written him) certainly has plently of experience being sick or injured, and he is so compassionate and caring that I don't think he would hesitate a moment to help others as they have helped him. I'm glad you enjoyed! :)

This is absolutely lovely! I can't believe I've only just got around to reading it for the first time. I had an encounter with a fox just now and that reminded me about this story, so I came right over here! You did a wonderful job creating tension at the beginning, and their fear and confusion is very real when the fox attacks them. It's such a sweet story too, and I adore the comparison between the instinct of the mother fox and the instinct of the cousins to protect each other - what a wonderful insight! And there are lots of poignant moments - Pippin's approach to the healers, and his thinking he'll be big enough to carry Merry one day. Do I remember Pippin encouraging Merry to take it 'foot by foot' in your Cormallen fic? If so, it makes for a lovely bit of history between them. *sigh* I'm so sorry I've missed this for so long! Author Reply: Yes, foot by foot is in my Cormallen fic, but it came from the Professor first! :) Anyway, thank you very much, I'm so happy you liked this! I didn't want to make it all frightening and tense without sweet cousiny moments, lol, so I'm glad that you liked the mix of that. Thanks again! :)

Aww! So adorable :) I love foxes and watching them is definitely a thing to be *very* careful doing. Like the one that attacked poor Merry and Pip some can be very tempermental -- and they *are* scary when they growl! Yipe! Merry is lucky that one didn't have rabies or another infection in its teeth... It is so lovely to see them both unburdened and so devoted to one another in the happiness of their youth. I love to read stories with Merry, Esme, Sara and Pip all together. You write their little fix with the fox so it is easily exciting and the toil with Merry's ripped arm (ow!) is perfectly portrayed in the counsinly manner the two are accoustomed to. Merry's nausea and Pippin's scarf and rescue and impatience with the healers was very nice! They are just so darned cute! What an enjoyable story! :) Author Reply: Thanks so much, Saoirse! I've actually never seen a fox, so I had to do a bit of research on them! :) I can imagine that one can be scary, when it's feeling defensive. You're right, Merry and Pippin are very devoted to each other! I envison their youth as one in which they're constantly helping each other out of scrapes :D I'm very happy that you enjoyed this story! Thank you :)
