| Of the first part I can only say, "Poor Earnulf!" He seems to be getting the bad end of everything. On the other hand I thought it was neat that even with his aches and pains, Aragorn could still kick the young man's heinie. "...a black branch that had been groping into their path drew back with the squeal of a nail wrenched from a plank." Since I've pulled a few nails over time, that sentence had a visceral effect. ...Kind of like fingernails on a blackboard. I so enjoyed interaction of Radagast, Quickbeam and Legolas with the trees. Lookig forward to the next! ~TF Author Reply: I was reading McAvoy last night (the lens of the world) and one of her older characters was reminiscing about being able to leap out of bed when he was nineteen and leap into action - he mused that if he leapt out of bed and into action these days it would only lead to him having to be being carried back into said bed- but give him a minute or two to warm up and he was considerably more dangerous than that nineteen year old. I figure our favorite King would be much the same! Glad you like my screeching trees, trees are remarkably difficult to give a voice. Must get onto ch 14, picks self up by scruff of neck. | |

| I love the hawk. Very beautiful visual images - and a lovely perspective. And Aragorn - the super-Ranger (even at his advanced age) - pounding the poor unfortunate Earnulf while Duilin scowls on the sidelines. Aragorn swayed away, as fluid as air, again. Poor frustrated Rohir! And, even confused, Earnulf realised it would be wiser not to attempt to take Aragorn out when his attention was diverted by the elf! (Still, at least he got to victimise his sergeant in his turn.) I wonder if Legolas finds it particularly entertaining when Aragorn refers to the soldiers as babies. For all his antiquity in human terms, Aragorn must still seem a baby himself at times to an elf. Quickbeam, Radagast and Legolas. What a team. The black-hearted trees don't stand a chance against them. I hope. And the vegetative venom of the suffocating vines is cringe-making. I'm not surprised Quickbeam was upset. Though staying there doesn't seem the best idea. And then to leave it there! Pleasant planning and the arrival of Telfaran and discussion of Gleowyn and the babes and you dive straight into an unexpected orc attack. Need update. Need next chapter soon! | Geez, I loved that hawk opening. How do you do that? I couldn't do that to save my life. I also really liked the fencing (if you can call it that) between Aragorn and Earnulf. Doing that from Earnulf's POV was brilliant. I could feel the poor man's pain! But a nasty ending, Rose. Author Reply: Thank you daw, as I have said before doing the video shot thing is easy, I see these stories as movies. The hard bit is hearing the dialogue and trying to work out what is going on, then telling it in some sort of semi-interesting way-LOL. Sorry about the nasty ending, it will be a surprise to poor Theresa as well, as it only came to me as I posted that it would be much more fun to tease at the end of this chapter rather than hit you all with rampant nasties at the beginning of the next.
