| My reviews have been short -- but truthfully -- I rarely even leave reviews. There are loads and loads of fanfic writers, but dear, you stand out from the crowd. What makes you stand out? 1) You've discovered your voice. If I had three samples of writing in front of me -- one of them yours -- I'd be able to pick yours out easily. 2) Whether consciously or unconsciously, you adhere to the secret of the great story. Character development is Plot. The choices a character makes determines the plot. 3) Foreshadowing and careful attention to detail. 4) The writer must know the hearts, minds and souls of the characters. Great storytellers employ all of these things and you are a GREAT STORYTELLER swimming in a sea of mediocre and lazy storytellers. So SoundofHorns, I admit to you that I might be a lazy reviewer but I'm not a lazy reader. I've appreciated every word you've written. Keep writing. | This is without a doubt the best work I have ever read! This coming from someone who is very critical of what she reads, and who often goes over and over and over the things she liked best. Needless to say I've reread the chapters you posted over and over (more than seven times, actually, even when I was in the middle of exams and work combined! Even if it was three in the morning!!!) I can't really say what kept me from reviewing untill now; maybe the fact that I originally wanted to review each and every chapter - but everytime I began reading I got caught up in what was written and just went on to the next chapter eagerly, without taking the time to press the review link - apparently I'm not that committed to my decisions, after all :) But I figured I just have to review, because there are few other works that I've lost myself in with such delight and curiosity and admiration. I think each of the characters' change of heart was just brilliantly done! Every time I read this I went on searching for defining moments that would mark such delicate and subtle psychological changes - but I've found little obvious ones, all the more praise to the writer! And speaking of psychology - the thinking patterns and motivations that you found for every character simply blew me away! There was such wonderful logic behind every thought and feeling that the characters' every word rang true. Just wonderful! And, of course, the very style of the story, the use of the words themselves, and the way in which they flowed were lovely! The only tiny, little smidgen of a non-positive thing I ever come across was the abrupt change of the tone of voice used in the story from the revised chapters to the older ones - but since you probably already thought of taking care of that it might as well need no mentioning. Overall, and in not so many words, I loved every single bit of it! I can't thank you enough for sharing this! And, obviously, I can't stop myself from begging for more :) All the best! | I'm going to temper my plea for updates with an observation. Eowyn delights in wearing men's clothes, stealing from her brother and Faramir regularly. She gets Arwen into it. Eowyn is worried about what the noble ladies of Gondor will think, butI can't see her changing her ways fully. Now, this month I was reading Vogue magazine for a story I'm writing, and came across an article that mentioned a woman who reminds me thoroughly of Eowyn when it comes to wearing men's clothes. Who? Coco Chanel. There's a photo of her and a friend in baggy men's clothing, with a caption that mentions that they would raid her boyfriend's closet for the outfits. I think that Arwen and Eowyn are on to something here. Look, they'll channel Kate Hepburn and Coco Chanel and bring men's clothes into style in Gondor. Lol! I hope that things are going okay for you, and that you have time to update soon! I've finished re-reading this fic, and want more. But I understand how pressing real life can be. Good luck! | I'm going insane!! Update! Update! Update! Pleeeeeease! (seriously, I'm dying without your creative genius. I've read other fanfics and you can believe me when I say this is the best I've come across. You've got character development, round characters, intiguing plot, sweetness and mystery, romance and trials. Just beautiful. And your spelling and grammar is the best I've seen yet. I just can't tell you how nice it is to read a story that doesn't need to be interpreted from jibberish or simple foolishness. Author Reply: Thank you! | Hello! I got a notice saying you had updated in September. Alas it was only for a re-write. I know you're busy but any hopes of a new chapter soon? Author Reply: I hope to continue writing on a regular basis very soon and to update as quickly as possible. I've hit a snag--the rewritten chapters have changed and this change affects the characters' actions, so I've had to rethink several things and see them in new lights. Thanks for your patience! I have NOT forgotten about this story. | |
