"Ollie's Faunt"? That's really great! I admire your imagination! And I like old Hattie. I did read of her before, but it never occured to me, that she was named for her hats. Those must have been very impressive ;-) Hattie is a good observer, for she realized that our three cousins feel like brothers for each other. And no-one corrected her. Just wonderful! Author Reply: Hello Andrea... I am sooooooooooooo embarrassed and I profusely apologize for not responding in a timely manner. I am usually pretty good about sending "thank you cards" to readers kind enough to take the time to leave an encouraging word, but it seems I missed this one. I recall Katrina getting in the way of a lot of things around this timeframe, but either way, I am so sorry. "Ollie's Faunt" came about from what I call 'pure desperation'. Marigold's challenge elements were all right until I saw that "Oliphant" thrown in for good measure. I agree with your assessment of Hattie; she is a good observer--I imagine a healer might have to be. We'll just have to see how impressive her hats are; I'm sure I'll have another bunny hopping round here soon. ;-) Pippinfan

I agree with Pippin's assessment of Hattie in that she knows how to treat him and she doesn't talk down to him or act as if he isn't there at all by explaining things to others around him. I fell in love with her and her hat the first time I read this and she is just as enjoyable now. Also enjoyed seeing Bilbo included and the nod to the Merry's scar from another tale of yours. *wink* I loved how all three hobbits let Hattie believe that they were brothers. Great story! Author Reply: No intelligent kid likes to be talked down to by grown-ups, and when I was a kid, that is how I felt (minus the intelligence!). I do like to write Bilbo, but I'm still needing practice. You can be my Bilbo "alarm" for any future tales. (wink, wink) I don't quite know how Hattie came about except I thought about Bilbo running out of Bag End in The Hobbit without his hat or handkerchief. Sam wore a "shapeless" hat while starting his trek across the Shire with Frodo and Pippin. So, perhaps hobbits in general enjoyed hats. I just had to match it with the name, Hattie, lol. Yes, I hate to say it, but Merry and Pippin's wee scars are the only good things to come out of that old story. Maybe I'll do repair work someday--that tale was my first (and only) experiment with a double-plot and I will admit it needs some rework. Thanks for reviewing Memory (again)! You're a lovely lady. A very interesting way to meet the challenge. Thanks for a few giggles, and nice to see the acknowledged brotherhood of the three of them. Author Reply: Oh, yes...I, too, love to read how other authors portray the "brotherhood" as well. None of these lads had true *sibling* brothers...so they sort of adopted each other. ;-) I think it's fun to see how far I can push the envelope sometimes...but mostly, its just pure desperation! Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for reading! Pippinfan

LOL! Ollie's Faunt! That's somethin I've never heard of. What a name! LOL! This was such a good story! I hadn't found it till now, but it was really good! Just that thing I needed for today! :D Author Reply: :-) Glad it gave you bit of laughter! While most of the tale was drama, I do like to pepper my stories with humorous moments. Life is just like that. Thank you for the sweet compliments! As for "Ollie's Faunt"...that's what happens when one is desperate. ;-) Take care. Pippinfan
