Of course the two special Bagginses would be thinking of one another on this day. What a thoughtful gift! And I agree with Frodo that a small party with family and dear friends is far more pleasant than a regular celebration. God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: Bilbo, I think was very Tookish in his love of big parties, while Frodo would have preferred quieter gatherings. I could not imagine that first birthday apart from one another would have been very easy for either of them--but at least Frodo made sure Bilbo would have something special!

"Ah, Frodo, my lad, he thought through his tears. I always knew you were the best hobbit in the Shire." Especially after reading this story, I quite agree with Bilbo. How thoughtful of Frodo to give Bilbo for their birthday what he really missed most - a rememberance from Frodo and a taste of the Shire. Even though Bilbo was happy amongst the elves, I'm sure he got quite lonely for the Shire and some of his family, especially Frodo, at times. I also liked Frodo's birthday party, with just his closes family and friends in attendance. It's would be much more like Frodo than a large party. He's much quieter in everything in his life, choosing to share it with only a few. This was a beautiful story about Frodo and Bilbo's special relationship. Author Reply: I think that Frodo realized they'd be missing one another on this special date, and wanted to be ready for it. He probably knew that Bilbo would be feeling alone with no other hobbits around. And he wanted to be sure Bilbo would be thinking of him. I am quite sure that Frodo's parties were like that--small and intimate, rather than the grand and showy bashes Bilbo had gone in for. I'm so glad you liked it.

Bilbo's gift from Frodo made me tear up a bit. I loved the fact that they were each thinking of the other on the twenty-second although they were far apart. Lovely birthday story! Author Reply: Well, we *know* Frodo never had a birthday without thinking of Bilbo--that's canon--so I don't much imagine it was any different for Bilbo wherever he might have been at the time. I'm glad you liked it!

Sweet! a nice little gift. The "voice" is very well done:D Author Reply: Thank you very much. I concern myself a good deal with getting the "voice" right, and am glad you think I succeeded.

How lovely that both our beloved Bagginses should be thinking of each other, and perfect that Frodo has sent some Old Toby for Bilbo. Thank goodness Frodo is surrounded by his friends and family - it must have been strange to celebrate the day without Bilbo after all those years. Author Reply: I am sure that it was strange for both of them. But we know the year never went by without Frodo thinking of Bilbo on that day, and so I am sure Bilbo felt the same, parted though they were.

That was sweet! Particularly the second half. Bilbo may have loved the elves and have been happy in Imladris, but I suspect he must have been quite lonely at times, being the only one Hobbit there. It was so wonderful how Frodo tried to assuage this feeling! Author Reply: I think you are absolutely right about Bilbo. Especially at first, it must have at times been a bit overwhelming to be surrounded by the Firstborn. Frodo just knew Bilbo would probably miss him on that day. And he *was* a pretty wonderful hobbit, wasn't he?

Bless Frodo for his thoughtfulness and his expressed love for Bilbo. Old Toby indeed! Author Reply: I am sure that Frodo anticipated that wherever Bilbo might be, he would be lonesome on his birthday. And of course, Old Toby! Nothing but the best for his Uncle Bilbo, LOL!
