Bear Me Away!  by Armariel 3 Review(s)

I forgot to mention that I applaud the reasons that Frodo didn't undergo the erasing procedure. Surely he would have come to love Bilbo and Sam and Gandalf again but the fact that he doesn't want to give Sauron the final victory over what that dark lord had so very nearly accomplished, emptying Frodo of himself during the Quest and filling him with Sauron's own filth, is very good. I am also very glad he wasn't consigned to oblivion as most people are when those who remembered them are gone also. Frodo lives! :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I got the idea for the erasing procedure from what someone said about a story she read in which after he goes to the West, his memory is erased and he doesn't recognize Sam when he arrives. I never saw the story and what with that description, I didn't much want to...but I liked the idea of at least offering him the choice. And decided if he were offered, he would not take it because that would, to him at least, meant giving in to Sauron, but instead, chooses to defy him and be the victor, and that is the beginning of his true recovery, both mental and physical.

But yes, I'm sure he would have been drawn to Sam just the same, even if he had chosen to be erased........

I read a very interesting book about post-tramatic stress called Failure to Scream that talked about people who did what Frodo did or tried to do - not dealing with the terrible trauma done to him, the rape of his soul and heart and the damage done to those people because they didn't deal with whatever tragedy had befallen that and how important it was that they did and how God could help them. I am glad that Frodo found someone to scream with.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Neat title! Yes, keeping it all in is not a good thing. But realizing that you are not alone and others have gone through it too can be an immense help. Or at least, so I'm told by those who've been there, done that, and were forced to buy the t-shirt;)

Telling forth can be a way of releasing it all. Hope the flowers help Riannor to heal as well.

And am proud he will not give Sauron the victory over him.

Author Reply: Long ago I read on a message board where somebody was talking about a story she read, in which Sam came to the Blessed Realm only to find that Frodo didn't remember him because in order to heal him completely his memory had to be erased. I never saw the story, but the idea stuck in my head. I thought, well, no, I don't think so, but why not give him the choice of it, at least?
