Lump of fabric, eh? Frodo's weskit? Ah, dear child, where have you gone? Author Reply: There's only one place he could have gone and he'll wind up staying there a lot longer than he had planned, poor boy. But ill-prepared plans often go astray.

Gil gets applauded for THAT? Sounds to me like the crowd is easily impressed. Frodo's missing! Dun dun dun... Author Reply: Yep, the hobbits don't get much excitement after all. And considering that everyone else was too afraid to even move one toe toward the Gate, they would consider if quite the feat. Consider it similar to a kid who runs up to the scary old lady's house and knocks on the door. :)

Frodo is the kind of kid who will take all the boasting seriously and go out and do all the sorts of things the bigger boys wouldn't really attempt. Being in the Old Forest doesn't seem a good thing - and no-one will really suspect that that is where he is - because the boys don't really do it! I like how Saradoc is disappointed to find that Frodo isn't there. It shows a real care for the lad that Frodo probably doesn't see. Good story. Author Reply: Frodo's a bit more perseptive than that. On some level he does understand that the older kids are merely pretending to be brave, but he can't even do that! And that's the problem. Plus he tends to be impulsive at this age, and thus makes bad decisions without really thinking them through. Then there's that famous stubborn streak of his. Once he has an idea in his head, he won't let it go. But you are right that no one will think to look for him there, and for more than just the reason you listed. It's been hard on Saradoc and Esme to care for Frodo. He's so withdrawn most of the time and yet they care for him so much. It's more than a bit of a one-sided relationship. And you're right - Frodo doesn't see it. He may be able to see when others are cared about or admired, but he completely misses it when it's directed at him.

I think I know what Frodo has done and if so, it would be just like him. It isn't showy and it would take a while for the word to get out that he'd made it into the Old Forest, but it would have been the surest way to get in without getting stopped. Shows the difference between Frodo and the older lads. The older lads want the praise for having "tried" but they'd never actually want to manage it. Frodo was determined to get in and I think he has..... This is so good! Can't wait for more. Author Reply: Frodo's a sneaky thing and he knows an opportunity when he sees one. ;) Frodo's quest, if you want to call it that, has nothing to do with social praise. It's entirely personal and therefore he doesn't need, nor want, everyone to know what he's done. And you're right, it will take time for everyone to realize what has happened. Hopefully, not too much time.

Hmmm... Any respect I may have had for Gil has gone now. He should have apologized to Frodo when he had the chance, no matter what others might have turned it around to say. So long as he made ammends with Frodo, he shouldn't have cared what others said. But I guess that's why he's the "bad" guy in this fic... I agree with Fuchsia. It's silly and childish... but I would do it! ^_^ I'd go all the way to the gate and then stop for a chat with the bounder! Anyway, I'm curious as to how Frodo got past the bounder, since I think we all know that he got in somehow. Well, I'll just have to wait and see. Good job here! Author Reply: Like most kids his age, Gil doesn't always make the best decisions. And he did have good reasons for keeping his mouth shut in front of Edon, because Edon would never have *let* him make amends. By misconstruing Gil's words, Edon would have likely made it worse. Besides, as far as Gil is concerned, he'll be able to speak with Frodo later. Of course, we know that isn't the case. LOL, that's probably what Merry would do too! More on Frodo in the next chapter. :)

Oh goodness! None of them realize yet what Frodo's done! I have a feeling that when they do the fat (to be polite) will hit the fan! Saradoc and Esme will certainly not be pleased with Gil and Edon if they think that it was their quarrelsomeness that goaded Frodo into trying such a foolish thing. And Frodo? How's he faring, so young and alone? Author Reply: You might be a bit surprised by their initial reaction to Frodo's disappearance. They'll find out soon enough that Frodo's missing, but they won't know where he's gone. If they do find out what's happened, it won't look too good for Gil or Edon. Edon especially has cause to worry. More on Frodo in the next chapter. :)

"...thus missing the lump of fabric laying upon the ground at the forest’s edge." He went in, didn't he? Frodo is really the most stubborn hobbit, I've ever seen! If Gil only had known before, what his thoughtless words would cause. Author Reply: Yep, he went in. Stubborn, and reckless and much too sneaky for his own good, lol! He's gotten himself in a pickle now. Hindsight is 20/20. If only we could all know what our actions would result in. Gil will be berating himself before too long, along with a few other people too. Where did Frodo go?! Another lovely chapter ^^ Author Reply: Into the Forest, of course. ;) Unfortunately, it won't work exactly the way he was planning it to, if he had really planned anything at all. Thanks for reading!

Eep! *bites nails* It's what I think it is, isn't it? *bites nails some more* Author Reply: I don't know, what do you think it is? lol. But seriously, yep it is. Frodo's a little too sneaky for his own good. *hands Breon some Lee Press-ons* Thanks for reading!
