| I was just surfing around SoA this morning, and came across this--I can't believe I had never read it before! What beautiful angsty imagery! I love the way the scent of lavender is able to take him away for a little while, from all his trouble. But his nights in Minas Tirith must have been so long and lonely... Author Reply: I'm glad your surfing led you my direction :) Yes, it must have been hard for both Pippin and Merry to be without another hobbit. It's the one thing, of all they did have to go through, that Frodo and Sam didn't have much of. There was only the short amount of time after the Shelob incident. | What a lovely story. You captured the mood of his being alone in a strange place so well, and what a neat surprise to see him brought back to the shire by his scented pillow. Wonderfully done. | I enjoyed this very much. Poor Pip must have felt very small and lonely that first night in Gondor, especially with Gandalf absent too. I always get that feeling from reading about his first days in Gondor whenever I read the Professor's own words. You conveyed that disorientation beautifully.
