| "Oh, what a tangled web we weave..." It seems that the healer who drugged Will to make things easier for him may have backfired in his intent. I hope joy truly will come with the morning, for both this family and the citizens of the town, who are now laboring under a burden of fear as they see upstanding citizens carted off, for all they know, to more hangings. I do still wonder at a Steward who has worked with Aragorn for several years, it sounds like, but still doesn't know to listen to hobbits. Author Reply: Ah, yes, the joy is coming... we're past the worst of the angst now (for the most part). This is the part of the story that is both most fun, and most difficult, to write. Hopefully the Steward's attitude will be understandable when all is said and done. Thanks! | |

| At least WE know that Will was drugged; hopefully that will fade soon; and to know that Jack's most joyous thoughts are of being in the Shire! Ah, how fitting! And now Pippin is remembering a long-ago trip from the farm to Hobbiton on a tall man's shoulders! Lovely, lovely, Lindelea! Author Reply: Yes, I figure that a heavy dose of sleeping draught wouldn't last more than six or eight hours, do you think? At least, it's hard to find cough medicine that lasts that long, in this day and age. It really was a pity that the Edict banned Jack from the Shire. I think he really considered the Shire his home. Bree was just a place to spend the winter where he didn't have to stay bent-over most of the time. Thanks! | |

| Huzzah for Aragorn! And athelas. I reckon (knowing nowt about it) that being unconscious might well be very advantageous for poor Will. He won't be panicking about his difficulty breathing - and that will probably make it easier on him. Although Aragorn's concern is worrying . . . but he doesn't know about the drugged part. Tell Seledrith not to get too upset about Will's deep dark secret - silence was to protect her, not deceive her. Although he can expect a serious Talking To, if he recovers enough. I love the way athelas smells, to Jack, like spring in the Shire - and that its fragrance seems to have liberated some of his memories. He and Pippin need a loooooong talk. I am also very glad that Aragorn has said, loud, plain and unmistakable, that the warrant was ripped up by his own hands and burned. And that the pardon is on its way. The greengrocer's sons haven't been able to relieve the worry of their kin yet. But morning comes early in the greengrocery trade. Hopefully Airin and Denny's wife will have the edge taken off their worry soon. Author Reply: Yes... he half-guessed at the drugged part but since he doesn't know a healer was in the picture he's missing half the information he needs. I guess it would be advantageous at that, so long as Will doesn't swallow his tongue or something. (Can people really do that?) Poor Seledrith. But you never know what might happen next... Long talk, coming up soon. And you're right, morning does come early in the greengrocer's trade. Thankfully! Airin and Merileth and the children are due some relief. Thanks! | |

| I never thought of the quote about the hands of the king being set to a tune or from a song! Now I want to hear the tune or, at least, read the verses of the whole song. *grins and shyly pushes a little pet nuzgul in Lindelea's direction with the promise that he doesn't eat much - no really!* Now! When is that potion going to stop working or when are these healer's going to find out what he was given before it is too late. Oh, and as one who works odd hours I sympathise with the greengrocers. Author Reply: I'm thinking it might have been one of those very old songs, considered a "nonsense" song as so many of our nursery songs are, when you don't know the background behind them. Tune or verses to the whole song. Hmmm. Wonder if Shirebound would oblige. She wrote a wonderful song for Pippin to sing, all about Strider's many names. Who else... Dreamflower, of course! I rather have my hands full writing music for a CD-project, but perhaps the Muse will spare a thought to LOTR music once more. You just never know what the Muse is going to do next. I work odd hours too, even though I really don't have to. (Well, if I want to write, I guess I do.) It is why I am so often short on sleep, like today. *yawn* Which leads to a muzzy, brainless feeling. Whew. | |

| So Aragorn cannot tell for certain that there are traces of drugs in Will's system? Hmm... Still, things do seem far more hopeful now. I look forward to Pippin's conversation with "Robin", recollecting that long ago journey to see Bilbo... Do we get to see the Steward burning that warrant? Or did he do that before he started drinking? Author Reply: I don't think he's looking for drugs. He hasn't heard the whole story yet, and so he doesn't know a healer was on the spot, and even knowing the healer was on the spot, nobody saw him give a draught to Will... There will be more (apologetic--that's not the word I'm looking for but I can't think of the right word--hungover? repentant?) Steward coming up. | |
