| i can see where this one would put you thru the wringer but thank you for going there and getting it to its conclusion, very nice story. Author Reply: This was challenging to write, though not for the emotional upheaval. I couldn't pin down what the story was supposed to be *about*. It eluded me for the longest time and it didn't help that my free time to write was pretty non-existant at the time. Obviously, it did finally come together. I'm glad you enjoyed the result! | |

| That was perfect! I love how Frodo just knew at that moment that Sam was his protector. I do so hate to see this one end for so many reasons but I do think that this was a perfect ending for it. I hope that Gil, Piper, Edon, and your other OC's will make future appearances in other stories because I became attached to them. This was a lovely story! Author Reply: Perfect? Oh, my. *blushes* Frodo has suspected for quite a while that it was Sam (perhaps that's why he caved and let Sam come with him to Mordor?), but to have it confirmed in that moment, his darkest hour thus far, did much to give him back a bit of his strength and resolve. Look for Fendi and Morti to make appearances in my next story, and Gil will get an honorable mention. I do have plans to bring at least Gil back, and Edon and Piper will have roles to play if I ever get around to writing that Quest fic I've been talking about forever. I've become quite attached to them as well, and I'll be looking for ways to bring them back. Thank you so much for reading this and for your wonderful support throughout! | ..and it all comes full circle. Beautifully done. I loved reading this story and, I am slowly reading through your other stories. Thank-you once again for sharing this "labor of love". Author Reply: It all comes back to Sam. Frodo's trip in the Old Forest was a sneak peak, if you will, of what was to come later. | No better protector than Sam. On so many levels: a reminder of what he is fighting for. Author Reply: Indeed. Frodo's parents chose well. Not only is Sam steadfast, but he does serve to remind Frodo of why he took up the Quest in the first place. That could easily be lost in the torments of the Ring and Mordor, but Sam's steady presence gives Frodo both strength and a focus. Thank you for reading and for your many lovely reviews. :) | |

| "He had confirmed at last what he had long suspected to be true: his parents had indeed left him a protector, and that protector was his own Sam. And suddenly, if only for a little while, he did not feel so alone in the world." That was a wonderful ending! That beautiful song reminded Frodo of what happened in the Old Forest and confirmed him, that it was Sam, who had been chosen to be his protector. Sam's song in the Orc Tower is one of my favourite songs in LotR :) It's frightening to imagine what Snaga's real intention was when he started to use his whip ... Thank you for this story. I'm looking forward to reading more! Author Reply: That song is one of my favorites as well, and was the inspiration for the title and theme of this story. I don't imagine it would have taken Frodo terribly long to begin to suspect that it was Sam who was his protector, certainly not once Sam was a bit older and more capable of taking on the role. To have his suspicious confirmed, in what is easily one of his darkest hours, must have been a small beacon of light in the storm for him. Snaga's a punk, lol. Thank you so much for reading. ^_^ | |

| What a lovely epilogue, tying together this story and "When One Door Closes..." Beautifully done, I love the way you wove your words in with the book's! This has been a marvellous story--very good job, my dear! It will take its place alongside "Mid-Year Walking Trip" as a favorite of mine! Now I look forward to some of the other stories you've been working on! Author Reply: I was starting to second guess myself about this epilogue. It's a relief to see that it's gone over so well. This story gave me so much grief throughout, I'm glad to see it was worth it, and to be able to tie it in with both the book and "WODC..." was a bonus treat for me. ^_^ Yay! | I loved it! I loved the tie-in with canon, and the way you wrote it with the lines from the book mixed in with others... They left him a great protector, they did. Now I want to cry. Author Reply: They left him the best that could have ever been hoped for. Sam was so much more than a protector for Frodo, though it was his chief role during the Quest.
