I say only that there be worse ways, if one must die than this, knowing the fate of the entire world lies in my keeping, as a golden lock of hair, and I have been chosen to stand side by side with friends. I was born for this. I wish only that I might know what is to come after, and if I shall revel in the prospect of endless peace and light Wonderful, as always! I can definitely imagine Gimli thinking/speaking... even singing this! Author Reply: Thanks Shirebound! This one was particularly challenging, but kind of fun...trying to assume the persona of a grumpy dwarf coming to terms with what seems to be certain death, trying to spit in its face and appear calm and fearless, and wonder if the afterlife might be a bit dull for a long-term warrior, and so on. So glad I succeeded! ~~~{~@

This is wonderful. I'm not often one for outright poetry, though I love a well written turn of phrase as much as the next author. But this is just outstanding. "I bite my thumb. I sneer!" It is a poem as a Dwarf would write it, a warrior's ballad. Perfect, and what a wonderful testament to our favorite Dwarf. Thank you! Author Reply: Thank YOU Lamiel! Glad you think it sounds "dwarfish". It took some doing to make it so, to really get into Gimli's skin and sound tough, defiant, afraid, and resigned, all at the same time, quite a challenge. I'm thankful it worked. ~~~{~@

In an odd way, one of the more moving movie moments, extended, expanded, exceptionalized. Yes, this would make it worth while, going that way. Author Reply: Yes, I thought that moment quite sweet, understated and unexpected. A great touch. And if one must die, the best way to go out is participating in a quest to save the world. ~~~{~@
