Yeah for Oropher's cool-headedness!! Usually people portray him as a thoughtless hot head. Nice story!

Just found this wonderful story -- wow! Thranduils' hate of the Noldor is clear after this. But Celeborn AND GALADRIEL with the refugees??? The Noldorin Witch (and murderess) inmidst the Sindarin fugitives? Excuse me.

The icy forest was beautifully described. The frozen elfling in its fetal pose was heartbreaking. You have created a properly grim mood and your characters seem very real. ~TF

I clicked on this the moment I saw the name Oropher! You're off to a lovely start, the tense relations between father and son show well how much strain they were under at that time. How sad that Thranduil's brother fell in the attack and Thranduil finding the dead Elfling was heartbraeking. I look forward to reading more. :)

I love the frozen forest - it is so beautiful and unreal - and very appropriate to the situation. I'm glad Oropher found Thranduil - and that the refugees include Celeborn and Galadriel. Oropher's arguments for getting his remaining son to return to his family are very compelling, and finding the elfing's body is heart-rending. I find myself desperately hoping that Elwing escapes and that these refugees make it to safety - even though I know they must! The presence of the kinslayers has the feel of circling wolves desperate for prey - very powerful.

I really like this, Space--especially Oropher. Thranduil's grief is portrayed really strongly and Oropher comes across as really very wise (it is such a pleasant change to see that). And I enjoyed the details in it such as the frozen elfling they found and the link to the fate of sons of Dior. Well done.

This is very well done. I love the sense of futile despair and grief, enough to drive a surviving brother mad. Thranduil's grief is very active, and that seems to suit him. I also like Oropher here. You can see that he is grieving as well, and he does an excellent job of controlling it enough to support his kid while letting enough show so that Thranduil knows he's serious.
