What a blast from the past this story is! I was badly bullied and pretty much friendless as a child, so I had an imaginary pet as well-a rat. My brother eventually talked me into giving *him* Arabella (whom he later killed, though I can't remember how). Lol. Thankyou for writing a lovely tribute to imaginary friends everywhere :) Author Reply: You are most welcome, EstellaB :) What is it with siblings feeling they have to get rid of the imaginary pets? I love your rat's name - Arabella - a lovely name. Thank you for reading and taking the time to respond :)

What a lovely story! I had an imaginary friend too but i can't remember her name. :D Pippin was a great comfort to Merry when he was born but still Merry kept the kitten and now it's Pippin's... :)

I had too many real pets to do imaginary ones, but I know how much such can mean. But I did have lots of imaginary playmates and an imaginary twin sister and other siblings, and certainly they have inspired some of my stories. That your sister-in-law hurt her brother so when she was little is so hard to deal with. But as with Bogus, the time comes when the imaginary friend isn't needed any more, and they find others or will just drift away. Am so glad Merry gifted Blackie to Pippin. That was very sweet. Author Reply: Yes, it was a horrid thing for her to do but she had reached the end of a child's patience, being only 3 years older. She had gotten fed up with all the fuss over "nothing". What always surprised me was that he didn't say that Blackie had gotten out of the way or some other thing - he accepted that she had killed Blackie, and that was it. Blackie wasn't resurrected or anything else nor did he aquire a new imaginary pet or friend. I wanted Merry's Blackie to have a happier end :) Thank you, Larner for reading and responding, as you know, it means a lot :)

I think Merry had a time of it after Frodo moved to Bag End...and I'm glad to see your take on it. LOL, its the only tale so far that I've read on it, and I think yours is fabulous. :-) I thought Esmeralda and Saradoc's reaction was great; they didn't humiliate the child or take him to task for such things. I liked how Merry passed his wee treasure onto his beloved cousin. Very well done, and thank you for sharing. Pippinfan p.s. my condolences to the "real" Blackie. :-P Author Reply: Thank you, Pippinfan :) My husband's parents handled his Blackie that way - shame his sister didn't :O I'm glad you like my impressions of Merry's coping with losing Frodo's everyday presence.
