Ok, there were SO many funny parts to this chapter! I loved all the elves being startled by her shout of surprise and dismay at the cold water. I guess it just doesn't do to exclaim at the top of your lungs in the middle of an armed camp, huh?

And the "Barrel Escapade"?? Oh my oh my!! I love the image of Erestor showing up at the river grate in his altogether! I can only imagine what that elf on guard thought!

I also enjoyed Penny's discomfiture (sp? sorry) at realising she had been teasing an elf of quite high stature, though I notice it didn't phase her for long.

However, my favorite bit that had me giggling for quite a while every time I thought of it was Erestor's and the other elves dismay at her treatment of her hair.
“That is beside the point,” muttered Erestor, still wincing a little.

“Leave her, Lindir,” said Celebdor. “If she wants her hair to be full of split ends and looking like a crow’s nest, let her get on with it.” *snorts* Oh, that's priceless!!


Author Reply: Thanks for taking the time out to review. I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. I did enjoy writing it, I remember - though I confess the Barrel Escapade only came to me as I was writing: I had mentioned it and then, as I got to the end of the chapter, realised I really need to think up a story that fitted it! *lol*

Ah, elves and their hair: they're such snobs about it. ;)

I've been remiss and fallen behind again, I'm sorry.

This is so well done. I'll be honest and admit I don't usually read stories that are mostly Elves, but I LOVE your Elves :) :)

And here I thought he might have been there for the dwarfs (dwarves? I forget!) escape from Mirkwood all those years ago! LOL It's nice to know that in FanFic, that elves are prone to 'lapses in judgement' on occasion.

And I have to tell you, I am on my 3rd readthrough of LOTR, and as I read, I'm trying to discover where Penny is! LOL I'm just at the beginning of the CoE right now so I know she and Halbarad are close to arriving (have already arrived? Forgotten already! sheesh!), and this makes my reading that much more interesting. Thank you for that. :)

Author Reply: It's nice to know that in FanFic, that elves are prone to 'lapses in judgement' on occasion. Well, not just in fanfic, either - after all that's how the dwarves escaped, after all: thanks to an ellon having a glass too many and passing out.

Gah - not sure whether to be flattered or terrified that you are reading LOTR with Penny's story in your head. *lol* Thank you!

I can see the phrase 'bloody elves' getting a lot of use. But at least they understand clean and groomed.

Love the anecdotes - and it serves him right for having blond hair! Well obviously!

And the image of ellyn rushing to the rescue as Penny suffers - loudly - from the shock of icy water!

And as for the Dorwinion Barrel Escapade . . . .

So Aragorn and Penny have something in common? *grin* I wonder who had the task of waking Aragorn if he had to rise early and how it was done without bodily harm for the unlucky elf!

And I can understand why humans aren’t too inclined to wash or bathe on travel if it has to be done with cold water. Of course, it was still funny that the guards came running when Penny shouted so loud! Poor girl!

A green-haired, roaring Balrog-slayer: THAT must have been a sight to behold. Oh yes, indeed! *snickers* These elves are hopeless. And the Dorwinion barrel escapade ... *ROFL*

So we continue to see another side of Elves, one seldom seen by humans (except perhaps Aragorn, who lived among them). One might say they are letting their hair down.

Some particularly amusing parts:

She still did not believe anyone had been quite so bold as to put colouring in Glorfindel’s shampoo, even if it did happen five hundred years ago.

A green-haired, roaring Balrog- slayer: THAT must have been a sight to behold.

Good old gossipy elves. They just could not help themselves.

“I am not sure I want to know,” he said quietly.

And the grammar-gremlin raises its warty head to ask whether there ought to be a "not" in the following:
These things were hugely important to elves and she would have them think less of her.
