An Offer Not To Be Refused  by Madeleine 7 Review(s)

As usual, the installment does not disappoint--poor Eomer being besieged from all sides! The first few paragraphs had me thinking just who it was who was touching Eomer so and boy was I surprised when I found out. Loved the uniqueness of Firefoot that Eomer had taught him to glare. Loved what happened to the captain of Aragorn's guard, I like the way Eothain expresses his liking for someone! I like how you assign a more prominent role to Erchirion here.

what a great story!!! i liked the beginning. it's like, Firefoot all tender, caressing Eomer while glaring at Aragorn. well, a horse is a horse, and especially a fierce one. of course Aragorn can't befriend the stallion, because the stallion thinks that Aragorn is the one that has just offended the king of Rohan...sleeping with a horse???!!!!!!!!! YUCK!! it's a wonder that Firefoot doesn't drop a mess all over Eomer (if you know what i mean)

And with Imrahil. He's basically a wierd guy... he can still consider marrying his daughter to a horse-sleeping man, no matter how good he may be???
AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

good story!

Author Reply: The reason he sleeps under the hay rack is to avoid any droppings from Firefoot.

One of the best ending lines I've ever read! LOL

I enjoyed the fatherly counsel Aragorn gives to Eomer. There's a big difference in their ages that I tend to forget. And the politics of Rohan are very well explained. I can see how they revolve around the king.

I have already read this finished story elsewhere but I couldn't resist reading this chapter again as it's one of my favourite's.The dialogue between Eomer and Aragorn is just delicious! I loved every word, every nuance and then read it all again. You certainly have a talent for witty repartee!

The Eomer you have created is both heroic and vulnerable and he knows his weaknesses but being compared to his Grandmother was certainly not what he was expecting from Aragorn. Also, Aragorn's concern for Eomer's well being is very, very touching--even though he would like to give him a slap! That Eomer regards Aragorn with almost hero-worship but responds to him as a brother is also very endearing.I love their relationship in this story.

Well done for a wonderful chapter and I hope to see an update of your current story soon.

Happy New Year to you!

Ali.

Author Reply: I am glad you like the relationship I have created between Aragorn and Éomer. As I said to Bodkin, I do not like the idea of two kings who are reluctant about their station. These two are confident and have an easy and trusting relationship, Aragorn being the big brother who still needs to educate the younger one in certain fields.

I love the start. It takes several sentences before the identity of Eomer's bedmate is apparent - and then you just think 'typical'!

Eomer is so determinedly un-king-like - and yet, at the same time, he has the disregard of convention that shows how confident he is in his position. And he was able to disconcert Aragorn with his unexpected knowledge of Sindarin!

I love Aragorn's response to him throughout this chapter - both his irritation and his amusement. And Imrahil! What a moment to recommence discussion of the subject that is driving Eomer wild!

Poor Eomer doesn't stand a chance here. Good thing he is hormonally incapable of resisting the word 'Lothiriel'!

Author Reply: I've never liked the idea of an Éomer whining because he has become king. This one simply sees it as his duty, and for him duty is something he would never shy away from.
And Imrahi is a shrewd man. He wants something, and he isn't rather particular about how he gets it. He has just been waiting until Éomer feels safe and has lowered his guard. A skilled tactician.

“I swear,” Aragorn declared, “that he is the only horse I have ever come across who is actually able to glare.”
“I trained him myself,” Éomer murmured

I like fiery, hot tempered Eomer... and I love equally the idea that graceful, articulate Imrahil wants to discuss his headstrong, unconventional daughter with this man who just slept with his horse!

Author Reply: That he is willing to marry his daughter to this Horselord, who is pretty rough around the edges, says a lot about Imrahil as a judge of character.
