| How indeed would I recognize it, eh? First read "Warrior Scarlet" in September, 1962, and I've loved it ever since, as well as every one of her books I've ever read--have somewhere in the neighborhood of 25, I think. My love affair with Sutcliff predates even my love affair with Tolkien and Lewis. Love the horsehead masks, the mock stallion battle, and, of course, the image reminiscent of Drem heading back to the bonfire he helped kindle with the hand of the one he'd finally realized he loved in his. And here Lothiriel has her first truly Rohirric experience with he who will be her husband. Just wonderful imagery. | |
