| I've been in a rather dark mood myself today, trying to crush anger that I don't like to feel even if it is deserved, and I came here and read this to cool off...and ended up hysterical! Again. LOL! I just love seeing Aragorn playing pranks for a change! Now, when will Frodo's turn come, hmm? *grin* Thank you for this delightful little story! | "Pippin gave a frightened squeak. “Not me! I promise not me, Gandalf!” LOL, I would've pointed my finger in Pippin's direction, too--given his shaded past in pranks. I enjoyed Gimli's stockings and the lizard! There had to be quite a bit of banter going on during those long treks in order to keep up everyone's spirits. | Dear, observant, determined Merry! And LOL! Gimli's socks and Aragorn's lizard and Legolas' apples. :D It is nice to see that the other members of the Fellwoship can cheer poor Frodo too. He certainly needs it. Author Reply: "Observant" and "determined"--two of Merry's greatest qualities, along with "loyalty" and "courage". Yes, poor Frodo really does need all the cheering up he can get, from time to time! | |

| Worth the delay to get the desired response; and the thought of those garish stockings on a dwarf's feet is making me smile. And glad it was Aragorn who finally got the desired effect! Author Reply: Well, it's quite clear that Merry, Sam and Pippin thought the delay worth it--and really, Gandalf, too! It just occured to me that we never really *know* what's under those boots, do we? What if Dwarves have a thing for colorful stockings? LOL! Yes, it just had to be Aragorn (and Gandalf) who finally pulled that smile out of him. *grin* | |

| LOL! Oh, thank you! I was hoping we'd get a closer look at this incident. Yes, Frodo had to be melancholy indeed not to even notice the others' antics. They had me laughing. To think of Legolas juggling apples! :) God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: When Frodo goes into that particular sort of mood, he's rather beyond noticing things, as Merry knows very well. Marigold had suggested that Boromir juggle, but when I went to write it, Legolas shoved his way in and said "No, me!" LOL! | |

| Oh my! I don't know what made me laugh more - Gimli revealing his feet or the prospect of him doing some darning! *snert* This was a lovely look at the Fellowship and their attempts to take Frodo out of his dark thoughts. I think they would have all been concerned about Frodo and would have tried to make his burdens lighter. Author Reply: Everybody liked Gimli in this, LOL! I do think there would have been a unspoken agreement to try and keep Frodo in as much good cheer as possible, though only Gandalf and the other hobbits at this point understand why it is so desperately necessary. But that Fallohide charm has won over everyone else in the Company, anyway. | |

| I think that there is an English Fairy story that revolves around various suitors trying to make a Princess laugh in order to win her hand. I like your story much better. Especially Gimli and his smelly feet! *g* Author Reply: There is, as a matter of fact! For Frodo, as far as his travelling companions are concerned, helping him to laugh and smile from time to time is as important as seeing him safely to his destination. Most especially, his cousins and Sam know this, and Merry more than any--he can still remember how deep and dangerous Frodo's depression could be around the anniversary of his parents' death, and now that he is grown-up, he also knows some of the implications that escaped him as a child. This is something Gandalf also knows only too well. It's far too soon on the journey for Frodo to fall prey to sorrow. As for Gimli and his smelly feet, it was Marigold's suggestion he take his boots off! LOL! | |
