I am way behind this time but I do plan to catch up at some point. Reading a chapter this morning before work. I liked the discussion about Shadowfax. Loved Sam's line about 'quality'. I just love that horse! I am enjoying the story very much.

Oh this was absolutely wonderful, Shirebound! And my, do you have a lot of reviews! I'm sure you've been told this before, but this story is wonderfully written and the idea is ingenious! Hannon le, mell nin, for writing this wonderful story! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

Gimli! What a doll of a dwarf! He'll chop some dead Snaga-arse for sure! LOL It seems Sam isn't the only one who must 'protect' Mr. Frodo, eh?

I love how you've brought the bond of The Fellowship back to our minds... not that it was forgotten per se, but it's nice to see it in action once more. I just wish Boromir were there too... imagine the arse-whoopin' that would occur if HE were there! "No need for a fire, boys! Gimli and I have wiped all sign of the foul creatures away with sword and axe! Touch our ringbearer? Nay!" LOL! :)

Hello! I collected three chapters of your story before reading any of it just to have enough to really get my teeth into, and they were a great read. This one is rather gritty for one of your stories, but I like that! I’ve always thought that Sam wasn’t helping when he told Frodo that it would be best not to speak at all about what happened in that tower. Very much in character, but... well, unhelpful.

They’re playing a Gondorian version of poker?! That’s wonderful. Frodo would be good I think. Merry perhaps even better. Sam might surprise some people. Pippin... perhaps not.

And I love the bit about the glint in Gimli’s eyes. So he’s going to chop that unhappy Orc into very, very small bits, right? Unappetising thought, especially considering the condition of that body two months later, but fun in its way.

Just saw you've posted Chapter 4! I'll try to wait until I have three new chapters; not sure if I'll manage!

“And have you noticed?” Pippin asked.  “The other horses all wait until he drinks first, and let him have the best feed.  They know.”

“Quality,” Sam said knowingly.  “You can always tell.”

*smiles*

I love this chapter. And I enjoy even the grim details about the removing of rotten orc-corpses... and that Gimli has his own business which what is left of that vicious Snaga. *bows in front of a noble, dwarvish warrior*

I'm really thinking that this might be your best story yet. It's got a fine balance of humor and angst, it's a fascinating idea, that of having to go back to Mordor after it's all over. I love how the hobbits are so positive and yet you can tell that they're still suffering some from unpleasant memories...and it all feels still so safe because Frodo is with Aragorn and the other guards! :-)

I do hope that Frodo finds what he seeks in this story, but he is surrounded by the love of many friends, which should help.

Love the observation about Shadowfax - as Sam says, you can always tell!

Oh, how typically Gimli - there won't be enough of Snaga left to sweep into a matchbox by the time our favourite dwarf has finished with him! Good for Gimli!

lovely details, Shirebound. Looking forward to the next update.

Yes, Gimli with a grudge would not be my choice of one to face. I, too, question how much of that particular orc might remain.

Love the look at the statue of the Fallen King restored. Sounds so beautiful, and it is allowing Frodo needed healing, seeing it repaired and the lands so obviously healing.

This is a very uncommon story for you. Yet I'm enjoying it immensly!

gimli is so often just let be a supporting player. But Tolkein wrote many moments showing how devoted he was to the Hobbits. I would imagine his dwarvish longing for revenge would have been quite strong. It will be interesting to see what you write of him. As usual, wonderful, full of light!
