| Hello Tathar, The fluffier the better - no apologise necessary. I love stories with Bilbo and Frodo - and their bond to one another. I like how Frodo wonders what the rest of the Fellowship are doing and they have him in their thoughts as well. Thank you for writing such a nice little piece. I hope your 2006 is very prosperous. I am the Queen of slow updating and writing at the moment, so know exactly what you mean. Need more hours in the day or less sleep or something. | Absolutely beautiful! Just exactly how I hope it really was for the two of them when they came to Tol Eressea--missing their dear ones, yet on the whole, happy and content. Thank you! Author Reply: Thank you very much! I just had to write this, because Frodo's leaving was always the saddest part of the books for me and I ranted about that ending for years. So this piece was sort of my acceptance that Frodo's leaving the Shire was all right as long as he really could be peaceful and content like this. :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it! | |

| Hello dear Tathar! Happy New Year, and what a lovely moment for Bilbo and Frodo. It's so wonderful to visit your special Tathar fandom world again. "The sea reflected the brightening colors as it lapped gently at the shore; and atop a hill that overlooked its endless expanse, two small figures drowsed together beneath a tree, lulled by the murmur of the waves." That's a very lovely, cinemascopic way to set the scene and then narrow in on the characters. I don't know if 'cinemascopic' is really a word, but I guess that it's one now since I used it, and I hope you get the drift. Very visual description and very nicely done. As an English teacher who is three times older than you, dear girl, I just have to put in one grammar remark. Use a comma instead of a semicolon in this sentence, or just drop the semi entirely. Semicolons are conjunctions just like 'and.' Use either one to join two complete sentences, but not both. So you don't need both the semi and the 'and' here. Semicolons are usually used to indicate some dramatic connection between two sentences, such as in "They had lost their visas; they had to leave the country immediately" or some such thing. Semicolons seem to carry a dramatic weight and call a lot of attention to themselves, so I usually advise writers to use them sparingly, for special effect. In all fairness to you, some of my favorite British writers (usually the older ones, not the modern ones) use semicolons instead of commas all the time. Perhaps this semicolon rule has only come into general acceptance lately, in the US. It's possible. Anyway, I'm very curious about your new fiction! I hope you will share it soon! Thank you very much, I'm so glad you enjyoed it. I have to say that this little story "flowed" more than any other story I think I've written. It was very interesting - I don't think I'm normally such a "visual" kind of writer. *shrugs* As for the comma/semicolon... I've heard the same thing from my writing teacher, but like you said, some of the older British authors use the semicolon instead of commas all the time. I think since I got into LotR when I was very young, it shaped the way I write so I've always used semicolons like Tolkien. :P Of course, I've had to train myself out of this habit in writing essays, but I have to say I kind of like the older, British usage in literature. Or maybe that's just my rebellious side bubbling to the surface... ;) I will hopefully have something to share with you soon concerning my fiction! I've got the (very short) prologue done, but that doesn't really count since it consists entirely of a excerpt from a historical document. :P I am in the midst of writing Chapter One, and I will send it to you (along with a summary of the story) as soon as I have something substantial written! :) I hope your Christmas and New Years were wonderful, and I'll talk to you soon! You might not know I have a new one - http://www.writers-haven.net/hobbity_love.htm. Doing that sequel to Bless Them anytime soon? I was inspired to write a small bit myself regarding that if you have interest in seeing it or maybe I could just post it myself and credit your marvelous story as the inspiration. It's Frodo and Sam around the time Sam is just learning to walk and talk. Do let me know!
