| Lindelea! I do so love this story! You voice Bill so well. I love "My Sam" and "Apples and Mischief" is the so perfect name for Pippin. Also love the young colt description again so apt! Poor Aragorn. It is not like Rangers can stay in a cozy B & B for the night and catch a shower! LOL! He definitely looks foul but is so good. I love how Bill is slowly reassessing his opinion of Aragorn! Bill, slowing growing in confidence, as he travels further away from abuse, kinda like Faramir, who in my stories, slowly grows in confidence as he realises Eowyn's love for him! Love this! Stay safe! ((virtual hugs)) MM Author Reply: I'm so glad! ('Grubby Ranger' jokes have abounded for years, ever since the first film came out. He sure did clean up nice, though!) I don't know what I'd do without my morning shower. Whew. | "Mr. Apples-and-Mischief". This is be best description of Pippin I have ever read. ROFL I just started reading this story and am so glad it was recommended to me. What a delightfull insight into the mind of Bill. I don't know of anyone else who has tried this. I am excited and can't wait to continue reading. | Hello Lindelea, Bill certainly is in a reflective mood here, and with good cause, the further he draws form the only home he's ever known. I understand his lingering reticence to leave it, although, fortunately for him, the devil he doesn't know (Rivendell) will turn out to be far more pleasant than the devil he did (Ferny). Nice work! | Yes, still reading ... still marveling at your ability to get inside a pony's head. You must be a horse person yourself, because you've got their behavior down pat! Author Reply: I grew up horse crazy. When I finally got a horse of my own, I got one with... um... personality. That was probably the best thing that could have happened, for in order to learn how to deal with her, um, quirks, I had to hire a competent teacher to take me beyond the basic training I'd had. She was amazing, and taught me so very much about what goes on in the equine mind. My knees are shot and I can no longer ride, but I am raising horse crazy children now. Wish I could indulge them. *sigh* I keep telling them horses are an expensive hobby, very difficult to make a living from, and demand harder work than they can ever imagine, but I suspect they don't believe me. | |

| Drat me for my sieve of a brain. I'd forgot I had started reading this. I love dear Bill's urge to return to Bree and how even he doesn't understand it. Sometimes we two-foots are like that too. Author Reply: What a delight to sign on while dinner's cooking and see your reviews! How I appreciate your taking the time to leave a word or three, especially when I'm near a long run of angst in "Closer than a Brother" (so tired today I'm not even sure I got the title right!)--but at least the angst is over and the good-feeling chapters are being posted now. Things are still quite angsty in "Jewels" and "Merlin" and likely to be for a couple more weeks before they settle down again. Come to think of it, things are rather angsty here in Bill's story, too, but he's making the best of it. How is your story coming? Is it on hold during the Moot? How exciting that Golden gets to go (if I'm remembering right). You and I and the others left behind ought to have a fic party. Wanna post a challenge at one of the LJ communities? | |

| I am SO loving this story! Talk about Horse Sense! ROFLOL! I love your characterzation of Bill.. such a pragmatic pony! I love him! And I'm SO looking forward to the rest of the story! Some of my fave Bill-isms: his misery not his master don't judge a book by its cover (horses read? LOL) I like how you covered that: him eating the book in the field! | I'm not surprised that Bill is a bit nervous. Who wouldn't be? And all that horrible squelchiness underfoot - it's a good thing the pony trusts Sam and is beginning to see a distinct difference between Bill Ferny and Strider. Author Reply: Ponies have sound instincts, as I might have mentioned before, except when they are expressing irrational fears about something or other. They can be the most practical, down-to-earth creatures, and the most head-in-the-clouds-what-were-you-thinking? animals I have ever known. Thanks! | |

| Well, if I were with the party, this would be a part of the journey that I would have hated, too, and I grew up in the midst of such things. Author Reply: I always hated walking on marshy ground when we were backpacking or portaging. I don't like wet feet, even now, unless it's because we're swimming or wading on a hot day and I'll get to dry them off when we're done. Thanks! | |
