What a lovely backstory to explain Merry's interest in herb-lore!

Well done, Merry. He is such a practical hobbit - he did a great job of helping Pippin here. I'm glad Eglantine recognises what he has done - there's nothing like a bit of approval! I'm not surprised Merry decided to extend his knowledge of herb lore. Author Reply: Merry strikes me as the sort of hobbit who pays attention to whats happening around him, so I can't imagine he didn't pick up a bit of healing lore from Aragorn and others, and when he finally puts it to use, it would definitely encourage him to learn more. I'm glad you liked this. :)

So this is how the herblore developed, eh? Interesting. And you certainly met the challenge. Author Reply: Thanks for reading. :)

“Don’t know any stories,” Pippin replied sluggishly. And that reply came from Pippin? Really? He must have been very ill, indeed! So, that was when Merry decided to write his famous herb lore! I like that idea. And the little story about how Pippin met Diamond was lovely. Author Reply: Yes, when Pippin can't come up with a story, you know he's in trouble. :) Thanks for reading, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Another great story Auntiemeesh! I always enjoy a good Mer/Pip story, and this was certainly one of them! And, (bonus!) it was h/c.. my favorite! LOL Author Reply: Merry and Pippin h/c is just about the best. Thanks for reading:)

Aw, that was a sweet little story. I love the way Pippin's personality shone through, even with a knock to the head. "You always hold up two fingers, Merry." Ha! And Diamond crying behind the punch bowls? I'll say it again - aw! I think a story about that party would make another nice one-shot... or perhaps even a chaptered tale. Anyway, great job! This has been an interesting take on the events in Merry's life that must have led to his writing. Author Reply: I'm gonna get to the Pippin and Diamond story one of these days. I've been reluctant to work on it though, for a variety of reason. I'm glad you liked this. :)

I think I reviewed this at the challenge site, but in case I was interrupted and didn't, let me tell you what a good read it is! I am glad you posted it here, for I enjoyed it all over again, all those little touches that add to the "thereness" of the story and the depth of the cousins' relationship. So that is how Pippin met Diamond, eh? And the rest is history. I do like your Eglantine, no-nonsense but fair. And this as the motivator for Merry's herblore is very believable. Author Reply: Eglantine loves Merry, but she holds a bit of a grudge against him after the quest and it's difficult for her to find the right balance sometimes, but in this case, with Merry having taken such good care of Pippin, it was hard to be angry with him. :)

I'm such a fan of h/c that it is a pleasure to find someone who can write it well. Thank you for this very nicely done little morsel. ;) Author Reply: You're welcome, and thank you for reading and leaving such a nice comment. :)

So that is where Merry gets his idea for writing a book on herb-lore! Good for him! Author Reply: Yep, using the limited skills he had to help Pippin really inspired him to follow up on that. :)
