| Hello again! I'm playing 'catch-up' on reviewing here this week as (I explained already) my computer woes are finally over (although I had even more computer problems last week, due in part to my own stupidity). Anyways, on to the review! This was one of my favorite chapters, especially all that deliciously poignant stuff at the end. I also enjoyed Daevan's frequent need to hide the anxiety he feels due to his inexperience and nervousness about the strangeness of things he is encountering, and his disappointment at not only NOT meeting the king of Rohan, but missing out on a comfortable night's sleep. As I was reading your descriptions of location/geography, etc., I found myself quite impressed at your 'book knowledge'. I, on the other hand, consider myself to be among the 'geographically challenged'. Aw, and that last part where Daevan probes into Strider's underlying melancholy -- you really touched a nerve there. Poor Aragorn. (But I loved it of course; sometimes it feels so wrong to be me)! Author Reply: Hello, viggomaniac, so good to read from you again! Oh, thanks for the praise on the book knowledge, but there was also the atlas of Middle Earth helping me out with details and maps. | Ah ha, Daevan is learning how to use his sword, and he got a wolf too. Strider is showing him new worlds, I too would be glad to be out of the rocks and onto the grass. Strider is having to wait a long time for his love, and having to be king too, before he has her. At least Lothlorien has good memories. | I've forgotten to review the last few chapters but I wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying this story. I love the relationship that is growing between Daevan and Aragorn and how it is slowly becoming more of a two sided relationship as Aragorn opens up a little bit to the younger man. I always enjoy a story more when there is not just action, but there is also really good, honest, realistic relationships between the different characters and you have done that very well. I also enjoyed the whole trapped in the trees by the wolves scene and how they finally escaped and Daevan finally putting his sword to good use! :) And finally Aragorn is spending time teaching him how to use it. | This has got to be my favorite chapter thus far! A period of respite is so well deserved of these two. A pupil of a great warrior! Not only is Daevan getting the lessons he so well needed for swordfighting but history lessons from such a great man! I love the way Daevan catches Strider off guard and somehow makes him reveal more about himself. He somehow knows how to get Strider out of his reverie without being nosy. "Can there be more for you to do than you already did?...the father of that girl would not want you to become..well, the ruler of Gondor or Rohan?.." "Gondor and Arnor"..ooohhh I betcha Daevan heard that! I wish I could see the expression on his face right now! I read the previous chapter and I am sorry I did not get to review. I had to stop ignoring my family and get back to real life for a moment! You know darn well I'm constantly checking for updates cause I cannot bare to miss any of your chapters! Author Reply: Thanks a lot! Though belatedly, I know. Real life can be nagging, and I was sick for some time, so excuse my silence, please. Those words from the dialogue are fun all the way. I love to write them, and it is very rewarding to read that the chapters are cherished. Well, that's all an author can ask for, right? - T. | |
