| I missed this chapter when you posted it. It must have been during that craziness when I was moving house. Glad I finally am getting caught up with this one. Hilly really does have some growing up to do, doesn't he? He also needs to get his nose out of the air and his feet planted more firmly on the ground. But he is young, and some leasons come harder than others. Hmmm, weren't a couple of other hobbits guilty of stealing old Ferdi's teeth a time or two? Well, I'm off to read the next chapter. Here's a good thought for you getting time to work on this story again. GT. Author Reply: Hilly does have a lot of growing to do, I find. It's hard sometimes to reconcile the fine hobbit he grew into, with the spoiled youngest child. (much belated) Thanks! Author Reply: (and yes, I seem to recall several other hobbits guilty of stealing old Ferdi's teeth. *sigh* Poor hobbit. Although his lot improved (along with his temper) after Pippin became Thain. | |

| I truly hate seeing Hilly this petty and spoiled. Hope he gets his comeuppance soon, for I know he turns out a wonderful gentlehobbit in the end. Author Reply: Poor Hilly. He's going to have a rough row to hoe, for a while. Spoiling a child is certainly not doing him any favours at all. Of course, he doesn't become friends with Ferdi until "Flames", some time after Pippin's disappearance on the Quest. | |

| Oh dear! Hilly really was a stinky self-centered little prat, wasn't he? Goodness, however did he get over himself? I am hoping that question may be answered, and I hope that perhaps Pippin has a part in reforming him--I can't begin to imagine how much has to happen before he becomes one of Ferdi's fast friends. I wonder if he ever ponders nowadays on how he used to be, and regrets some of the tacky things he did? Author Reply: Ah, yes, he really was. You can see a little of it in the beginning of "Flames", his unreasoning prejudice against Ferdi, to the point where he takes part in a false accusation (although unknowingly). When the truth comes out, he's badly shaken and starts to re-think his position. Another softening element is the love of a good "woman"... whom I think you've met elsewhere, haven't you? ...his beloved Posey who has not yet entered the picture at this point in time. Thanks!
