| What a sweet moment! I am referring to the one between Merry and Pip and between Merry and 'Stella. I love Stella's fiesty-ness here - she doesn't give an inch to Merry. You knew you would have me immediately with Merry being ill, recovering, and Pippin taking care of him, and the banter between them, so full of affection. And then Merry's speech to Stella! He would be truthful with her, and noble, and self-sacrificing, and she should have wacked him upside the head (but refrained because he was ill, no doubt). Every word of dialogue is packed with 'hobbit-ness' and so true to each character. I love the backstory written in so skillfully, and the sense of future that will make Merry whole again. Loved it, loved it, loved it! Thank you! | |

| Greetings, Citrine! I have you on author alert here, and have read you at Fan-Fiction and HASA, I think. I really like this piece. I laughed at your comment that Pippin seemed to write himself into the story. That is exactly how I see them, always together. I think that even after they both married and had children, their two families would do much together. I enjoyed your description of Estella's determination to have him even if she did have to be his nurse. Tolkien did not give us very much about about Estella and Diamond, but I think they would have had to have been very strong people to deal with the post- war tramas and continue to build a life.I like to see how they would have coped. Lovely story! | |

| I wouldn't exactly call this fluff, LOL! (Or at least not from anyone else.) It has some real depth to it, in spite of being just a vignette. I love the description of Merry's malaise, and Pippin's concern, and the banter at the beginning of the story so much. You hit just the right note of cousinly teasing with it--too many people go over the top with that and end up making Merry and Pippin sound either like idiots or ten-year-olds. You got it just right--they sound like fond grown-ups who have a long history between them. And the part with Estella was lovely. To take the bull by the horns the way she did took a good deal of courage. Rejecting someone else's rejection is not an easy thing to do by any means. Very nice, very nice indeed! Author Reply: Heh. You know, Pippin wasn't even supposed to be in this story. He kept butting into my thoughts and wanting to talk to Merry, and I kept rewriting and forcing him out-maybe that's why this story sat in limbo on disk for so long! I guess I should know better than to get between the hobbit-voices in my head when they really, really want to chat, lol. Yeah, Merry thinks he's being so noble there, but he didn't stand a chance, really-Estella's had enough of hardship while the Shire was occupied, and she's not giving up one more thing she cares about. She's sticking to him like glue, lame arm or not. Whew. Hell hath no fury like a hobbit-lass scorned, or something along those lines;o) Thanks for reading, Dreamflower:o) | |

| Well, you aren't the first to borrow from Lindelea--I certainly did, too, bless her heart. And it is a very plausible defense many lasses might have been driven to make, considering the times and the dangers the Big Men afforded. Lovely getting back together for the two of them. Author Reply: Thanks Larner:o)Yes, I really do love Lindelea's Estella. My Estella's a little less deep and a bit more girly and Victorian than hers. (For one thing, Lin's Estella probably didn't cry over her bad haircut, lol.) | |

| That was absolutely delightful. Not just the Merry and Pippin teasing at the beginning, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks you got that just right, but your Estella is wonderful and I find myself loving her. Ah, just right. Author Reply: Aw, thanks! Merry and Pippin usually write themselves for me, but I really struggled with Estella. I'm glad I got her right! | |

| Oh, how wonderful! Very bittersweet, for both of them, but a good ending. It explains why they waited to marry, and it's a nice look at how the whole Ring War would have affected the hobbits in the Shire. Good characterization, I thought. | |
