Yes, for the King Returned, this would indeed be a difficult time, learning that he must allow others to die that he might live to fulfill the promise. And the loss of this one, so like unto himself, must have been almost more than he can bear. Author Reply: Yes, he's been living with a great deal of guilt over this for a long time. It's something he'll never fully get past. For him, this would be the hardest part of his heritage, knowing that others would sacrifice their lives for his.

So, it was not as convoluted a story as I had expected. But it's still very tragic. I wonder whether Legolas has a similar incident in his past. I imagine that most professional soldiers can look back on a situation in which their own inexperience cost someone else's life, but Aragorn and Bregor's story is particularly poignant because of the close bond between the two men and the fact that Bregor's wife was expecting. I like this story. Very realistic. Author Reply: But I still liked seeing your guesses. Yes, it is a tragic situation, and I'm sure it's all too common in the lives of soldiers. Aragorn has had to live with the knowledge that his best friend sacrificed his life and the chance to raise his child so that Aragorn would survive. Thanks.

Aha! So the mystery is solved! Now do all the Dunedains look alike? Oh my gosh! What a tragedy! A sacrifice of one life so another can live!..And a best friend! That is hard to take. Poor Aragorn! Author Reply: Well, I do think that many of the Dunedain did at least have similar coloring, so it would not have been that uncommon for Aragorn to find a friend that resembles him. Thanks for deciding to continue the story when you weren't sure where I might be taking it. Yes, it was a tragedy for all involved, but Bregor would have done it again in a heartbeat. It's just been very difficult for Aragorn to live with the knowledge that his best friend would make that kind of sacrifice for him.

Aww, what a guy. So Aragorn had a best friend. This is a good, still sad, story. Alot of best friends happen to be look alikes huh? That only makes the payback better when Aragorn finds a twin to do the twins in. hehe. That is soo sad but sweet how Bregor saved him, and through that he saved a great many people! Don't feel guilty Estel!! Good story, Misty! God bless, ~Arwen Author Reply: Yes, I do think Aragorn really needed an ally in his early travels with the Dunedain. And I could just see these two young humans starting a prank war with the twins. ;-) Considering how close they were, I'm sure Bregor would have done anything to save Aragorn's life, but Aragorn would hold onto that guilt for a long time. I'm glad you're enjoying the story.
