The Latter Days  by Elanor Silmariën 7 Review(s)

It is a difficult thing to appreciate, I think.

Elanor, Happy Easter! Christ is Risen! He is truly Risen!

I am glad to see you have started another story! I am enjoying this as I do all your works. I ache that Frodo is beginning to suffer from declining self-esteem already in doubting his trustworthiness. So good to see Sam so caring. I love the way you write those two. And I love in your other story about their first meeting that Frodo falls asleep in Sam's lap. Truly those two were made for each other! :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: He is risen indeed!
So glad you are enjoying this one as well!
God bless,

Hmm, I can see how after all Frodo has been through that the Shire could very possibly no longer feel like a peaceful home to him. *sniffle*
Oh no, I smell an incident in the making with this whole deputy mayor idea, what will happen with Frodo El?? Will it be bad?? :Z Sam will be there to rescue him if somthing does go wrong right? Great story! C U later!
God Bless ~Arwen

Author Reply: Not sure what'll happen, but we will see... Sam will definately be there! You're giving me ideas, mellon nin....

Aha--someone else is at last trying themes with Frodo as deputy Mayor. Am interested in seeing how you handle it. And I appreciate Sam's ability to help Frodo better understand typical Shire logic.

Author Reply: Yes, I was hesitant at first, but I figured since it was in the book.... Sam is such a dear, isn't he?
God bless,
Ellie

This is great Elanor. There is so much truth in the idea that people ignore greater disasters because they can only cope with so much. If it affects you closely and personally then you have to deal with it. Other things may be of passing interest but don't affect our everyday life.

Poor Frodo! He simply can't get past his dark thoughts of guilt no matter what others think of him. I am looking forward to more of this.

Author Reply: Poor Frodo indeed! Glad you are enjoying it!

It's so sad to see dear old Flour-dumpling (and I say it with affection) so thin, but at least his spirits don't seem to have suffered much. That was clever, having Frodo accept the job out of sympathy.

I love the interlude at the end, especially this:

“I understand, though, Frodo. Don’t think too badly of them for not gettin’ it or appreciating it. They don’t want to know what happened because they don’t
want to believe anything so evil would have anything to do with us.” He makes me look at him again. “They want to believe they’re safe. And they are, because
of you. They wouldn’t feel half as safe if they knew of all the dangers beyond our borders. I’m afraid the ruffians was as much as they could handle.”

Beautifully put! And I like Rosie's appearance and her addressing the two as "lads." Yes, they're her lads, all right, and she's going to look after them both by and by.

I know I keep saying this, Ellie, but I can't get enough of this! It's so delightful now to be able to follow your stories as you've followed mine and Antane's. And I can't wait till this is finished, because when it is, I'm going right back to the beginning and reading it all over again! :)
God bless,
Galadriel
