I just wanted to let you know that I am really enjoying this rewrite! I liked the little bit with Pippin and Merry arguing in the cupboard. V. funny. V. hobbitty. Author Reply: Thank you so much, EstellaB :) I'm glad the new bits are fitting in well. Thank you for reading and responding :)

"He was surpassed in all Hobbit records only by two famous characters of old; but that curious matter is dealt with in this book.” I remember reading that same passage, and I am one of the folks who take it literally. And don't forget the "One for the Road" Ent-draught Pippin and Merry drank on the way home. ;-) Pippinfan Author Reply: "And don't forget the "One for the Road" Ent-draught Pippin and Merry drank on the way home. ;-)" I had, in fact, forgotten that one. Thank you for reminding me. Apparently that is the one that pushes them over the top (so to speak), allowing Sam's comment at Cormallen to be more correct.

Interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it say somewhere in the book that Frodo was 3 foot 6? God bless, Ellie Author Reply: Not that I'm aware of. I hate to admit it, but I don't know where, if ever, Tolkien uses the 3 foot 6 figure. I haven't read any of the History of Middle-earth nor the Lost Tales etc. so it may be in there.

As Tolkien equated greatness with height, I always figured Frodo was fairly close to four feet in height, and the others shorter than he until the ent draughts. I'd forgotten how tall Bandobras was supposed to be, myself, and appreciate the information. Have four editions of ROTK--one of the original Ace paperbacks, a second edition from the late sixties, the Redbook slipcased edition of LOTR, and the Alan Lee edition. It's been fascinating to see how the story evolved over the years. Author Reply: Yes, for all that he had his heros be the hobbits, and the hobbits be short, he did seem to equate greatness with height. So it makes sense that he had the Fallohides being taller than the other groups of hobbits and that they were the leaders amoungst the race. Thank you so much, Larner, for reading my stories and taking the time to respond :)
