| Yes, it must have been hard for Elrond to leave behind his children, knowing that two he would never see again, and not knowing if the twins would follow. I myself wonder why he did not wait a little longer. Author Reply: Thank you for reviewing. I know the Elrond must have been so weary and tired of all that he had endured over the ages and I'm sure the thought of staying and seeing your children dying would just be too overwhelming, especially for an elf... or half-elven. I also wonder if he was weary because of the loss of the ring, Vilya. He had depended on that source of power and strength for thousands of years and that loss might have played into his need to leave as well. And, of course, there was Celbrian waiting for him! :) Thanks again. | |

| It must have been very hard for Elrond to leave his children.It puzzles me why no one accompanied his wife when she sailed? A touching story. Author Reply: This is one part of Tolkien's story that is hard to understand. Why he did not have anyone go with Celbrian, though really it was a miracle she even survived - most elves would have died. But really the whole event is a mystery, the things he did to Elrond are amazingly tragic even though he did live in Middle-earth for 6,000 or so years the losses he endured are great. Yet he is still described as being as 'kind as summer' and that is an amazing thing as well. Thanks for your review, Linda | |
