Okay, NOW Panic!  by Boz4PM 6 Review(s)

This is a sad but excellent chapter. It is the burden of the Elves to bear the losses that come with living so long. It is part of why dear is a gift to Men.

Wonderfully done!

Author Reply: Thank you. I am probably biting off more than I can chew at times, but this chapter is one of several where I have tried to include things that are perhaps sidelines from the main story but I felt needed expressing nonetheless.

I just love you're story and this chapter is very nice.
I can imaging many of the elves have lost loved ones and will not talk all that much about them.
The lady's around Arwen are surely in for some surprises I'm sure :) and I can't wait to see the way it will happen.

Author Reply: Thank you, I am glad you are enjoying it all so far. Yes, as I have said in a response to another review, we often forget that the elves would have many of their companions who have died or sailed by this time - which is rather sad when you think about it.

Oh, the ladies of Gondor are in for a shock at some point. *says no more* ;)

‘Such chivalry,’ she thought, grinning, as she climbed the stairs to her chambers. ‘Being walked to my door and chaperoned by some tall, dark, handsome warrior. I could get used to this.’ Well, Penny is not the only one ;) Of course I was pleased with her reaction to what the Ladies said about Halladan. And I hope to see Arwen deal with the ‚condescending cows’, too. It could be amusing *grin*

The rest brought home once more how many elves fell at Dagorlad and how much the survivors miss them. No wonder they look forward to sailing West if it means they will see so many friends and relatives again who are lost to them as long as they remain in Middle Earth. And I think it only reasonable that Celebrían had some ellith with her. It doesn’t mean anything that in the books it is not mentioned, given how little we know about it all. Poor Eleniel and Lindir, I am so sorry for them.

Author Reply: I think it's something we often forget (and I include myself in this) - that there are far more elves in Valinor than there are in Middle-earth, and that those in Middle-earth are 'the last stand' in a way. We always see their sailing as a sad end, whereas in fact they are going to be rejoined with all those they have missed for so long.

I have had these 'bunnies' about Eleniel and Lindir for some time so I am glad they have gone down so well. :)

"...I shall instruct one of Arwen’s ladies-in-waiting to befriend you and introduce you to those of the court you did not meet yesterday.”

I found this a bit odd... probably correct nonetheless, but I had to giggle. Aragorn telling someone "you will befriend her."... I imagine the 'chosen one' possibly pouting, "But I don't want to befriend her..." LOL :)

Lovely chapter again, Boz and as always, worth waiting for. I enjoyed the insights into Halladan and Lindir and Eleniel. You've given this story so much life and flesh.. I continue to be awestruck. It will be a sad day when this story comes to an end.

Author Reply: *lol* You have a point - it does sound a bit harsh. I meant to correct this when I first read your review but have not had a chance. I will do so, though, and to something less 'dogmatic'.

I am glad you enjoyed the chapter, and the 'fleshing out' (as it were) of some of the key characters. Thanks for your comments, daynawayna - they're always appreciated. :)

I have to say that this is my favourite chapter out of both this story and its predecessor. So unspeakably moving...I've often wondered about why Eleniel is single, since she seems popular with the ellyn, and clearly appreciates the gorgeousness that is a male elf (I'm thinking of the comment she made way back around the time of the River Incident about being able to think of an ellon or two she wouldn't mind seeing in nothing but leggings). I was really sad to read of Lindir's loss, too. Oh, what a sad thought, that he's in love but she was taken away...but it's beautiful too, because he's going to see her again, and that time it getting nearer rapidly. At least he knows she loves him in return. Eleniel doesn't have that certainty. *nervetwitch*

It's nice to get a bit more of an idea of Mireth and Eleniel's ages, too. I'd always thought they were quite young, simply because of the fact that most elves married young and Mireth is betrothed.

I like the way Penny still makes foolish mistakes. The great lords aorund her are very kind, though. Elrond's kiss was lovely.

What else? Oh, Halladan is a rugged hunk of burning love.

Oh, and the little talk Penny had with Mireth and Eleniel really enforced how much more distant they are to her than Lindir, simply because they don't know her full history. (Do they? I know she's tried to tell them once or twice but don't think she actually has.) They still just think she's foreigner. Asking Penny if she knew of Celebrian and seeming surprised when she said she knew the story made me think of it.

Lindir's going to get laid! SORRY. I've been trying to to say that, but I just know he'll be quite a lover. So sweet.

Author Reply: I am so glad the backstories moved you! I have been saving them up for ages, waiting for a good opportunity to tell them and this seemed as good a moment as any.

I have always thought of Eleniel as nearer Lindir's age, if perhaps a little younger than him, and Mireth quite a bit younger (though of course it's all relative). Mireth is not too young, though, since she has a little responsibility in Imladris and is a trusted healer of some worth, but she is amongst the youngest of the adult elves around, that is true.

I think Penny will never cease from making foolish mistakes - it's in her genes. *lol*

Halladan is a rugged hunk of burning love.
*rofl* I am glad you think so. Something about burly, dour Dunedain... *gets dreamy, far away look*

As for Mireth and Eleniel, then no they don't know her full story, but they have both hinted to her that they realise there is slightly more to her than meets the eye - they are not fools. ;)
