Elrovail and Celebrimbor are quite a pair. Celebrimbor's past, of course, is rather dramatic - having to turn his back on his nearest kin. Elrovail's predator nature is scary, but witty. What her real background is would be interesting to know. Hmm, I guess Elrovail has a slight non-penchant for the little princess? :) -Kitt Author Reply: Rather adversarial, yes. But, Elrovail really does not dislike him anymore than she does Aurthon. Celebrimbor split with his family was not happy, but it seems he became happier afterwards. Well, a lady has to have a hobby. There is indeed more to her then has been revealed. And actually, like most everyone else, she is simply not happy with the way Celebrian has been acting up and getting away with it. She is fond of the child...for her own reasons. Thank you for the reveiw!

I love Celebrimbor squirming on Elrovail's hook. In fact, I rather think I'm developing a strong affection for Celebrimbor. He did well to escape his family and choose with whom to spend his life rather than frittering it away on flipping Silmarils. Still cursed, I suppose, and not in receipt of a happy ending - but there's always Valinor and post-death opportunities. And you can't say he's dumb - not if he knows enough not to upset the person who provides the clean, ironed clothes and fluffy towels. Some things are more important than dignity. C&G seem to have a very piercing sight - and go far beyond the superficial in deciding who becomes part of their extended family. And Celebrimbor should stop seeking advantage and go and join the party. It should be a lot of ... fun. Hrassa can squash Elrovail, she can terrify Celebrimbor - now, how does the circle close? But ...'It was as if an elaborate mask – the fanciful sort worn at rowdy fairs and carnivals where only the eyes could be seen and the thoughts behind them barely read – had suddenly been dropped, revealing a surprisingly normal and worn face beneath. “And you do too.” He was taken aback at the genuine sympathy in her voice.' He's had a glimpse of the person beneath the shiny carapace - not for long, though. Oh, I can't wait to see what happens next! Delightful. Author Reply: Well, this version of him is so likable! ;D But, cursed? That original curse was removed. 'Course that doesn't mean certain individuals have incurred their own sentence for refusing to admit any wrongdoing. Keep up good thoughts for Celebrimbor, though. But, the appearance of dignity can be the most important thing to some people. However, in his case I think, the comfortable and aesthetic life carries more weight. One is a judge and the other a seer. I would certainly listen to their opinions of someone's character. Well, the master smith has finally joined the party and with much anticipation of... fun! Hmmm, I am not sure what you mean. That there must be someone in dread of Celebrimbor? Whom Hrassa would rather not cross? ;) This is what he gets for being hung up on her behaviour and never trying to understand it. Thank you for saying that! *sigh* I wanted to spend more time polishing this chapter, but opted to just get it posted instead. Re-reading it, I am appalled at some of things I should have done a little better. Looks like the next chapter is not going to be that soon.

Another interesting chapter, and this time from Celebrimbor’s point of view. I had almost forgot that he was running around :-) I am amazed, as usual, by the level of detail and consideration you give to such matters as the attendant at the entrance to the guests’ quarters, as a sign of whether there was someone lodging there or not, as well as the service bell, knotted up or not, depending on the status of the area… That is a nice device to tell us about the disposition of the area and organization of that part of the service. I also found Celebrimbor’s thoughts very amusing, when he was deciding whether he would provoke Elrovail’s wrath. His decision that he’d rather enjoy his fluffy towels and press upon his clothes and that he would leave the formidable housekeeper alone was very amusing, and very wise from his part, too! I still consider Hrassa to be the ancestor of my grandfather’s housekeeper, the one who will not let you move an armchair a inch form its right place, nor welcome any innovation to the vineyards, nor stop claiming that how good things -and wine- were in the goof ole days! That’s Hrassa! But Galadriel was very brave to equal him to Huan! ;-) Elrovail’s appearance is truly fearsome, even for a grandson of Fëanor, and one who apparently looked the Powers in the eye in his youth... But she taunts him almost to grovelling in a well practiced manner…That meeting shall surely be worth a lot of detail! I’m so looking forward to it! Btw, a lovely idea. Tolkien's cosmology is so open that leaves room for many things...:-) Author Reply: Thank you, but I certainly could not let Celebrimbor get away from being part of the fun *that* easily. ;) I do have a problem with characters reaching significant conclusions without explaining how they did that. Now, I would say a wise person weighs the worth of what he wants. Besides, as many would say, Celebrimbor has to live - and work - there. As another saying goes, a man's best friend is his dog. Along with his horse, his hawk, and his lady - all very precious to a any good lord. derry derry down down And another big reason Hrassa's running off hurt both C&G. Ah, but do the Powers of Arda ever smite someone down without cause? Well, maybe Osse... just for the fun if it... Celebrimbor is obviously anxious to see Galadriel's face. However, he knows why Hrassa left and that he was never actually dead; the master smith may be expecting the lady to be *happily* surprised. Like Elrovail seems to be anticipating. Oh, the Begetting holiday thing? Thank you! And thanks again for your thoughts on the subject. :)
