Web of Treason  by Linda Hoyland 4 Review(s)

At last Arwen calms down and acts the way that she usually is: calm and gentle. Faramir now REALLY needs to listen to the queen that Aragorn isn't dead, but he's too stubborn. While Arwen keeps trying to convince him that Aragorn is alive but in danger, Faramir keeps trying to convince Arwen that Aragorn is dead. Faramir probably is assuming that Arwen's continuous statements is refusal to accept her dead husband. He really needs to understand and listen.

The people who wanted everyone to think that the king is dead are certainly clever. Apparently they got Aragorn's dress size right, but they forgot something which gives them away…unless…when Arwen says that she embroidered her husband’s every article of clothing, she probably did — it's not likely for Elves to forget one. But, Faramir keeps objecting, thinking that she may have forgotten one. So basically, the bad guys have made a mistake that costed them much.

Good for Arwen to change the subject to dreams. Some dreams may not be dreams after all — rather, they are visions, haunting ones. The queen, who has been familiar with and has been using the Thought Bond for many more years than Faramir has, should know this. In addition, it was also her connection with her husband, and as you mentioned in an earlier chapter, no one feeling their soul torn in two, that enabled her to know that the haunting dreams are not merely dreams. They are actual pleas for help. And help should be given — if anyone can find the king, that is.

And…in the bedroom, Éowyn agrees with Arwen, but that was only because in her past experiences, she had something like this happen to her loved ones. And if Aragorn really was dead, Arwen would not be acting the way she is now. But then…three seconds later…the sister of Éomer changes her mind, now thinking that Aragorn is probably dead.

And…when Faramir wakes up he discovers that Aragorn had just gotten even worse in the dream.

Finally, I wonder what made Arwen scream so bloodcurdlingly.

I can't wait until your next update!

I think that Faramir, believing he has seen the body is finding it hard to doubt what he believes he saw.He is subject to prophetic dreams though and should take heed of those asa well as the Queen.
Eowyn finds anything not down to earth hard to understand.

Poor Aragorn! Not only does he have to deal with whatever situation he is in, he also has to reach out and convince his Steward that he is, in fact, alive! :) Faramir and Eowyn need to listen to Arwen... perhaps whatever has happened to her here at the end of the chapter will be able to convince them. I certainly hope so. Looking forward to the next chapter.

I think at present only Arwen might convince Faramir that Aragorn is not dead, and in the next chapter she does make some progress.Aragorn's plight is truly horrendous.

Good description of Faramir and Eowyn's turning to each other for comfort in the wake of the King's supposed death. You've succeeded in depicting a married couple who are physically comfortable with each other; we can see how they've grown since A SHADOW AND A THOUGHT...

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm glad that you approve of Faramir and Eowyn here,as you write them so well ,while I'm not very comfortable depicting them as a couple.I wanted to show how they had changed and matured since SAT.

If Arwen can do this, why doesn't she use the power later on to reassure Aragorn that Faramir is innocent of ill-intent? Even if he is too frail to use his own power, he would trust her judgment, surely?

And yes, Faramir, Arwen is right! Listen to her and Eowyn. And pay attention to the dreams. You never know - you might be able to save Aragorn from the evil plotters.

I think Arwen is slightly ashamed of the way she violated Faramir's mind and would not do it again after he did what he promised her.
Faramir does indeed need to listen to his Queen.
