I've read a couple of your other stories and I suppose it's no surprise that this story is also a pleasure to read. Your Gandalf and Aragorn seem very real and the dialogue is just what I would expect from them. "But why you share your table with Strider is beyond me." Why, indeed! Great story. I posted one of my own (Gandalf/Aragorn) elsewhere but it's hardly in the same vein as what you post. I'll be reading more of your stories. They're fascinating and I appreciate that you write Aragorn so well. Author Reply: Thank you very much, estelstheone. I'm pleased you enjoy my stories and my Aragorn and Gandalf I believe I have seen your name at HASA. I have more stories posted there, for example "The Sword of Elendil," a WIP beta. It is about Aragorn's life from age 20 to 26. I hope you read it! Looking forward to hearing from you again soon, G.A.

Nice picture of Gandalf and a wet ranger meeting in Bree. I like that part about the heart now being at one with duty, Author Reply: Hello, grumpy--it's been a while since I heard from you! Yes, what was once his duty and responsibility is now also his deepest desire. G.A.

“He brings me the best pipeweed in the Shire.” What better reason to support Strider! And Gandalf may be asking questions, but I reckon he's rubbing his hands in glee - all the right buttons are being pressed here. Author Reply: Yes, everything is falling nicely into place! Thanks for reading! G.A.

A nice snapshot of a long and warm friendship. Author Reply: Hi meckinock Thanks for reading. It's fun to write Gandalf indulging in his material vices. I imagine he found there were some benefits in having an earthly form. G.A.

Your heart is now one with your duty, I guess.” What a lovely way of putting it! And what a lovely snippit to come back to. Author Reply: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. G.A.

Great descriptions of them both. Indeed, only Gandalf would dare tell Aragorn that he seems to be aspiring to both Elendil and Beren. But indeed, I do not think Aragorn could see himself that way. He probably felt he was just doing his duty. And what a friend to have! The Maier were just one level below the Valar themselves, yet Gandalf smoked and laughed with mortals.A lovely picture of that friendship. Author Reply: The lack of arrogance is a trait they both share--and one that warms my heart. Personally I greatly prefer Gandalf the Grey--Gandalf the White is just a little too high and mighty for me! (Ian McKellen said the same thing!) G.A.

I love this conversation! I love Aragorn's entrance (he sure knows how to make one!). You sure got Gandalf down--from his speech, mannerism, to his handling of his pipeweed! Lovely little piece. I sure enjoyed it. Author Reply: Hi, RS I don't think Strider could ever enter Bree unnoticed--unless he climbed over the gate! It's fun to imagine the two of them indulging their vices. I'm glad you enjoyed it! G.A.

What a wonderful conversation! You have their "voices" down perfectly, and I could both *see* and *hear* this lovely little scene! Author Reply: Bree is a great cross-cultural pot in M-E, and, of course, Aragorn and Gandalf are two of my very favorite characters. Thanks for reading! G.A.

"Your heart is now one with your duty" “For a man with so little pride, you have remarkable goals,” Gandalf chuckled. One knobby finger tapping the aromatic weed pouch, Gandalf winked at the old fellow. “He brings me the best pipeweed in the Shire.” This is marvelous. You say so much in this short scene! Author Reply: Hi, shirebound! I love writing Gandalf, as I imagine you can guess from my moniker! It's too bad more writers of fanfiction don't use him as a character. His friendship with Aragorn was very important in making Aragorn who he was. G.A.
