Oh, Pippin is too cute! I think I missed this one in the Challenges, and I've been away for a while, so I missed it here too! I really enjoyed this story, despite the fact that I was just about as worried for Pippin as everyone else. (i'm terrified of fires!) God bless, Ellie Author Reply: Thank you, Ellie :) I'm glad you caught up with this story and that you enjoyed it!

Yes, questions that need answering indeed! And at least no one was hurt when the fire passed over the smial. Author Reply: Thank you for responding, Larner :-) It would be a benefit to living underground, that's for sure!

Pippin has found the answer to a lot of questions - but has he learned why it's not a very good idea to stick your head out of a window when a fire is burning towards you? Because I think that's a message his Uncle Saradoc would be very keen to get firmly set in his head! That fire was very scary - and Pearl and Pimpernel's worry was very good - not too overstated, but definitely festering in them. Author Reply: Thank you for reading and responding, Bodkin :) I'm sorry that the lecture/instruction that surely should and would follow this incident wasn't part of what my muse gave me. I seem to often leave such things out of my tales - I must have a very lax muse. I'm sorry if it's absence distracted from the story for you :( I'm glad you liked how I handled his older sisters' worry :)

This is very topical with the heatwave that has hit my bit of England particularly hard at the moment! Very scary because I know that it could happen to me any time soon-but a fantastic story! Thankyou :) Author Reply: Thank you for reading and responding, EstellaB :) I've noticed that England and Scotland have been unusually hot the last week or so. I hope you all come through it all right. I'm glad you enjoyed the story :)

But this was Pippin Took. Well, if that doesn't say all ;-) I can see him standing there, fascinated by the sight before him, the colors, the sound, the smell, oblivious to the extreme danger he's in! And it was so very close! I like Saradoc's reaction, someone else would have found much harder words. However, when the time is right, Pippin should be informed about the danger of fire - and I'm sure Paladin will see to that. Thank you Pearl, for this great little story! Author Reply: Thank you so much, Andrea :) Yes, that's our Pippin ;) I'm sure Paladin and Eglantine will have some words with their youngest child, though we know it won't do much to curb that curiosity of his.

O my. Read at a gulp. Very masterfully done, so quietly setting all the pieces in place and then building the tension. Pippin certainly *did* get his questions answered! I just love the way Saradoc dealt with him. How relieved he must have been feeling! You Tooks and your endless questions,” he said under his breath, but he was smiling as he said it. “What do you say to finding some sausages to roast over the indoor fireplace fire in our sitting room hearth, Pippin?” Author Reply: Thank you so much, Lin. I so need the encouragement you, and other writers whom I admire, give me. I'm glad you enjoyed this tale :)
