| We know not if Thranduil might have left Middle Earth at the last to follow his son; but if he chose to remain, then this is indeed the parting I'd imagine for these two. Love of father and son will endure even the fading of those Elves who remain behind. | |

| well done view of the last good-bye between these two. The balance of emotions between affection and anger are well-done and not too heavy on one side. sad to think Thranduil will never go to valinor, and so never see his son again. I hope he changes his mind, myself, for both their sakes. wonderful writing, too. I found your other story first, and was driven by it to see what else you've written. | "Legolas went and knelt before his father. He took Thranduil's hand lovingly in his own and kissed the signet ring on his finger then pressed the back of his father's hand to his forehead. 'I thought my fealty to the crown without question, my lord. But I will swear any oath to you that will seal the matter.' Thranduil looked at Legolas' bowed head and was instantly transported back to the last time he had seen his son this way, the night Legolas had accepted his king's commission to travel to Imladris and take part in Elrond's council. He raised a trembling hand and placed it on Legolas' head, overcome with the grief he had tried so hard to conceal." I liked this moment best, though your ending was a very close second. This is a lovely tale, very poignant and well written. ~TF | |

| Well, look who's here! I feel like a proud parent myself, having inspired you to write this lovely story. Congratulations on your debut in Stories of Arda, and for having found a poem to quote in your title that was unfamiliar to me. "Nothing gold can stay." How very appropriate for the fleeting relationship between Thranduil and his son. | |

| OH my god! I'm bawling like a baby and I'm not even sure who I feel sorrier for, Thranduil or Legolas (ok being a parent, I'm going to side with Thranduil). Very, very touching story. You have written both characters so lovely and moving. I've gotta go find some kleenex now, I'm a mess. Post again soon. | |
