What an amazing intrigue Annatar created. Love fighting Thranduil :D

Real life has kept me a little too busy the last month and I am catching up on reading--you have been prolific! Poor Gwaelas! All that happened to him is terrifying. I loved Galadriel in this chapter. She seemd very in character. But Thranduil's musings about his father's rule and the possibility of his own were my favorite part. Could they endure trials as had been inflicted on Beleriand? Or would that break them? A very good question and Thranduil ability to lead them through such times is exactly what makes him so interesting to me. Great chapter.

Thank you! :)
I know; it's amazing to think I used to hardly be able to post more than three chapters per semester. But now it's crunch time of a different sort.

Well, this was a very informative look into Thranduil's mind and heart. I really liked how you delved into his thoughts after Galadriel lays out the game board for him (and us readers). Gaining a clearer perspective along with him about what was going down and what the coming conflict will mean to him, his family, and his people was most welcome.

The whole section where he examines his duty and role as a leader, then resolves to fulfill a king's doom was inspiring.

To go from abstractly facing his new realization to amounted ot a forecast of the coming struggle was, I thought, very well done. The very sense of history and dedication that enlightens him almost overwhelms him! More of Annatar's insidious sorcery at work, perhaps without Celebrimbor's conscious participation. The villain uses our hero's own virtues against him!

Great chapter!

It seems that by trying to kill Thranduil and Gwaelas, Annatar has set in motion something he hadn't planned on. Thranduil has roused from the complacency (is the only word that seems to really fit) of years of peace and realized the weaknesses of his realm in the face of this rising threat. He's starting to question his father's narrow-mindedness and the isolationist policies practiced. The anger and resolve the Thranduil feels, to my mind, marks some sort of turning point in his growth into the King he will one day become. And that fight with Celebrimbor was very...tense. I thought for a time it might be Annatar in disguise again, but I guess he wouldn't have tolerated Thranduil winning the bout. Very tense, Coriel, and although I am glad Galadriel realizes the threat of Annatar, I wish she would do something about it *sigh* although I realize why she doesn't (I think!). LOL Great chapter and so glad that Gwaelas and Thranduil are better!

So do I! But Galadriel is out of my hands in this regard. It seems to me that she might have wanted to make a bigger issue out of the whole thing a long time before it would have come this far; but what hasn't been done, hasn't been done.

Thranduil's advantage, it would seem, is this opportunity to mature in his leadership capabilities before he is actually put in a position of power. I think Oropher is taking it too much for granted at this point. Live and learn!

A wonderful fight scene. Who is this Celebrimbor? Forgive me for my lack of Tolkien knowledge, but the name doesn't ring a bell. Is he the one who makes the rings or wants them made? Anyways, he's a dirty weasel.

I didn't think Thranduil was going to fight back in the end; thought he'd freak out from the memory. But of course I was wrong and he fought back like a wild animal. If I ever met a man like him, I'd be running scared.

Celebrimbor is the grandson of Feanor who headed up the Mirdain and was chiefly responsible for the Rings of Power. But if I elaborate any more, I'll spoil the next chapter. ;)

Thranduil still has a few quirks to work out before he'll be conditioned enough for his Mirkwood responsibilities in the next age, but he's working on them. Being able to finish the fight without completely freaking out is a step in that direction. :)

Sorry, I just went back a re-read what I wrote, and I want to apologize for the spelling. *Wince* I'm usually more careful...but I forget how to even spell my name when I get excited, so I guess you could consider the terrible spelling a compliment. I was too wound-up to think about something so mundane as spelling...

Oh dear! It would appear that Annatar's field day is having more repercussions than just signaling that a storm is building. How in the world is Thranduil going to explain all of this to Oropher *without* telling about his little field trip, and the resulting disasters? Somehow I think that the revelation that his son was attacked in Eregion would go over like a lead ballon....

P.S. If Galadriel and Gil-galad detest Annatar that much how did they end up with Nenya and Vilya?

Author Reply:
Probably because Nenya and Vilya were entirely of Celebrimbor's making. The others besides the Three had Annatar's fingerprints on them.

Shhhh . . . maybe Oropher need never know . . . ;)
