Oh, find them, Pippin-my-lad; find them and make them pay. And they will pay, for they have no true understanding of how the quest refined these Hobbits. Author Reply: Oh, I think Pippin, and Merry, and Sam have every intention of making the ruffians pay. And no Frodo about, to intercede and plead for mercy. Though I wonder what Frodo's reaction would be, to these particular ruffians? I'm not sure he could say that they were "great, once" or any such thing.

". . . had the ruffians seen his face they might have known fear of hobbits for the first time since they’d been chased from the Shire after the Battle of Bywater, and rightly so." They definitely don't really understand who they are messing with! (I can so picture Billy Boyd as Pippin with such an icy rage in his eyes and it quite gives me the shivers.) Author Reply: Oh, my. They definitely don't understand. Guess they're in for an education. I love it when what I read builds pictures in my brain!

Oh my. Sam, Pippin and Merry's experience of what kidnappers do is not good. But at least they know enough to realise they can't trust the scum to be well-intentioned - and they will be sure to be on their backs as quickly as they can. They went thataway, Muster - get after them. And if any hobbits have the experience to keep cool heads and catch them out ... Update soon! Author Reply: No, it's not a good experience. Yikes! I love your way with words.

OOOHHHH! I was just going to read this, and not bother to review. But this is getting good. Now i shall have to go back and read the stories these current references come from. Pippin's current state of mind puts me in mind of certain quotes from Aragorn. i think it was after Moria. something about if we have no hope, vengeance will have to do for motivation. The Ruffians may have thought the Hobbits were not frightening enough during the Scouring to keep them away. i think "they ain't seen nothin' yet!" Pippin will use everything he ever learned at the side of Aragorn, Faramir, and the other members of the Fellowship, and add to that his Father's grief and anger. They WILL be hunted down. And I would not want to be them when they are found. And we should have known our Travellers would not be foolish enough to fall for a deception. Oh, this is getting good! Author Reply: Not bother to review? But didn't you know, the Muse runs on reviews when the pina coladas run low? Ooo, now that you mention it, I vaguely remember Aragorn saying something like that, though I don't remember where or when. At least hobbits are a lot less cruel than ruffians; the baddies will probably get a cleaner death than they deserve. Glad it's getting good! There are a few more horrific parts, but the satisfying (I hope) ending is in sight. Um. Perhaps another ten chapters. Or my guess might be way off. Had wine with dinner, celebrating someone's birthday, and it really throws me off kilter.

At least now Pippin knows they've got Farry!!! Hopefully Pippin and Co. won't find them too late. Or maybe young Faramir's got something up his sleave? Hobbits can be very sneaky... Author Reply: Hobbitses can be *very* sneaky, and in more ways than one.

Well the Ruffians are going to find themselves faced with three who helped encompass Sauron's downfall: Peregrin Trollslayer, Meriadoc Nazgul-bane, and Samwise the Stouthearted! *IF* they deserved it I might feel sorry for them...but I don't one little bit. Those are going to be some very angry hobbits on their heels! Author Reply: You can say that again!

Ooh. This chapter and its imaginings leaves me feeling almost as sick to the stomach as Sam and I am no squimish ninny. Think carefully Pippin. Author Reply: yikes! I can't bear horror, so it is a wonder to me that I can even approach writing it. And at that, so much of it has to be read between the lines...
