| Yes, the Ring had possessed him for sixty-one years, and realizing it's gone at last would take a good deal of time. Author Reply: Indeed it would. With the way he asks to see it again in Rivendell, I don't think he fully realized until he saw Frodo's horrified reaction what the Ring was all about, nor the hold it had had on he himself. | Bilbo must have been very strong-willed, to walk away and leave the Ring, even with Gandalf's help. It must have been strange and rather wonderful for him to feel free of that weight at last. | It says a lot for Bilbo that he had the strength to walk away from it. Even with Gandalf's help. It makes him unique, really. Hobbit power! Author Reply: Yes, very unique indeed, and brave. | O very well done, indeed! This is completely believable, and wouldn't you know that somehow Gandalf is keeping a mental "eye" on Bilbo, fond of the old hobbit as he is. The Ring has passed on, and Bilbo is at last free... Well, as free as he can be, poor old fellow. MEWD!
