A sweet tale. That was cute the way Sam tried to wipe Frodo's shirt--nice touch! Seems I'm not the only one who likes to write Frodo in first-person! ~~~{~@ Author Reply: I love first person in general. I find it a way to really get "inside" the character mentally. (I'm working on a first-person Merry story currently.) Sam wiping Frodo's shirt instead of his own tears was one of those things that just popped into my head as I was writing -- I tend to be very spontaneous while "creating" -- and I had to include it! Glad it seems to have worked for people. Thanks for commenting!

...he was behind me, as somehow I guessed he always would be. That's my Sam! I love the thought of him trying to dry Frodo's shirt instead of his own tears. Interesting thought that they both lost their mothers at 12. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Thank you so so much for this lovely story, Rowan! I love it :) Poor Sam was lucky to have someone there who understood how he felt - and then Frodo and Sam could both help each other since they've experienced the same thing. Lovely, lovely :) ~ swg ~

This is beautiful. I have Sam older in my own universe when Bell dies, but I like that you have him and Frodo the same age when that loss comes. A very sweet way in which this so-obvious bond might have been formed. I started off, back towards the Hill and Bagshot Row, knowing that he was behind me, as somehow I guessed he always would be. That is so true and somehow poignant. I love it, Rowan. God bless, Galadriel Author Reply: That's one of the great things about writing LOTR fic: everyone has their own vision of what happens when in the characters' lives. For instance, I thought that Sam being the same age as Frodo was would give Frodo an extra connection with Sam for the story. So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for commenting.

Sometimes the -- the feeling just got to be too much, and I had to get away for a while, to somewhere where I didn't have to be brave. Suddenly my arms were full of Sam, trembling, his breath coming in gasps as he wept. All I could think to do was to simply hold him, one hand buried in his hair to stroke it. Oh Rowan, how lovely. Frodo knew just what to say, and Sam is so dear and compassionate. And they're both so very brave and wonderful. Author Reply: One of the best (and most infuriating) things about Frodo is how he consistently underestimates himself! I'm starting to wonder if I could write fluff to save my life...everything I've done so far seems to be angst, angst, angst. Thanks for the lovely comment, Shirebound!

Absolutely beautiful! I really like the way Frodo opened up and shared his own pain with Sam--this is a very insightful story!
