Now I want to know more about the farmwife and her dagger!

Author Reply: Maybe some day.....

A woman with clear sight of her own. I am sure the blade also gave her more confidence in times of trouble.

Author Reply: Tolkien never says much about the powers of these daggers, but they must be pretty strong if one could kill the Witch-King!

Odd to find a new one put into the middle like that. i quess it is for your own plan to organise them. A lovely piece. i can just see the young lady going about her business. Her family must have served the last king, a long time ago. If people can continue to believe in the powers of good and light, the dark will not prevail for long. A nice little moment.

Author Reply: There's a note of explanation of the arrangement of the pieces at the very beginning. The first set of drabbles and vignettes focus on Aragorn and are arranged in order as they would occur in his lifetime. So this piece is set when he is between 20 and 26 years old; the other Ranger is Halbarad.

I wrote this after pondering long about what knowledge the remaining people of Eriador would have about the "Old Kings" (that's Frodo's phrase). And the muse presented this tale.

Thanks for reviewing.

A very nice one, although I was surprised to find it in the midst of the stories instead of the end of the list.

I'd like perhaps a better surety as to which Rangers these might be.

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing, Larner! They are Aragorn and Halbarad, but the farm maid couldn't possibly know that, could she? And the story is from her point of view. My hope was that the mystery would add to the bit of suspense in the tale.
