To Tell a Tale  by Lindelea 7 Review(s)

“Mmmm, chicken soup! I like that!” Pippin licked his lips. “But my favourite’s mushroom. That reminds me, I’m hungry. Is it time for elevenses yet?”

Elladan laughed. “Pippin, you only recently finished breakfast! You cannot possibly be hungry again!”

Pippin looked at him reproachfully. “Second breakfast was nearly an hour ago,” he explained simply.

“He is a hobbit,” Elrohir reminded his brother. “You remember what Bilbo is like!”

Elladan nodded. “I think, Pippin, that you and Barra would have got on famously together!”

“She sounds like a queen among foresters’ wives!” Pippin declared. “I should like to meet her! Now, tell me what happened the next day. And don’t forget to describe the food.”

Perfectly typical Pippin!! *g* Really glad to see this.

How could Pippin not be interested in the twins' performance? They tease each other rather like Pippin and Merry! I love the asides - they really add to the story!

And ...

He frowned. “It’s very confusing. Especially when you keep calling each other El all the time! I think you do it on purpose.”

He has a point, you know!

I love the way he's more interested in the food Elladan had to eat than his injuries. Although he's right about that boy. Hal deserves a hard time! At least until he gets a bit more sense.

Author Reply: Oh, dear, the reviews to this long-ago posting have languished for years without a reply. So sorry, and thanks, and hope this finds you well!

Lovely revisiting of a great tale, in the frame of sharing it with someone new. I enjoyed the references to their many mishaps in your other tales. A fun story.

Author Reply: Much-belated thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

Oh Jay...Nicely done!! Lovely tale on what can happen when young ones w/an attitude decide they can do anything. Usually something bad isn't all that far behind. And BTW...Would the Hal in this story be a certain, Halabrad!?! Just wondering? Great tale!! :o)

Author Reply: Thank you muchly, on Jay's behalf -- for I don't know why I didn't solicit review replies at the time the reviews were posted, but evidently I didn't. So here are belated thanks. (And I like to thing of "Hal" as Halbarad myself, it makes me smile to imagine such a thing, so I certainly hope so.)

Wonderful--a Hobbit to the last, our Pippin! Heh!

And love the story told as well.

This is wonderful! I'm so happy this story is being continued, and I love the twins visiting Pippin. What an interesting tale they had to tell him.

Author Reply: Was just going through and answering reviews, and found all these years-old reviews languishing without a response! So much belated thanks on Jay of Lasgalen's behalf, and mine, for stopping by and leaving a good word.

*grin*

What a lovely addition to the story!!

It works even better, told here, than it did on it's own!

Pippin is particularly Pippish! I love his confusion in the face of identical twins, his efforts to avoid his medicine, and his eagerness to hear about the food!

And the end was adorable! "Won't forget about elevenses?" Indeed! LOL!

Author Reply: From Jay of Lasgalen:

Thanks! I must say, it was fun writing Pippin's comments on events. I've written hobbits so rarely, I find it a challenge to get the voice right - I'm glad you think it worked.

I thought that *any* hobbit would be more interested in the food than other details :)
