Despite the bloodline, you can't help but think that Aragorn needed Faramir more than Faramir needed him! Thorongil aside, Aragorn lacks the depth of experience and knowledge to rule Gondor - while, if Faramir put his mind to it, he could probably have the 'king' shown quietly out of his kingdom. (Possibly with a terminal ailment.) Fortunately Faramir is Faramir. And he is noble and generous and honest and remarkably selfless. They will make a good team.

I really enjoyed this look at Faramir and Aragorn beginning to get tl know each other and work together. Very realistic as I would imagine it. Looking forward to delving into more of your stories. Author Reply: Thanks! I wasn't sure how this one would turn out, since I don't often delve into the more political/administrative plots like this, so it's good to know it comes off realistically enough!

Just as Gandalf returned to Middle Earth the White, what Saruman had been intended to be, even so has Aragorn returned to Gondor what Denethor had been intended to be, offering honor where it was earned instead of the questions and suspicion given by Faramir's father. And Aragorn does need to remember now to DELEGATE! Heh! Love that touch! Author Reply: Silly king, used to doing everything himself... Very thoughtful review. Thank you. :)

This is marvelous. What an overwhelming time for Faramir (and Aragorn!), after all that's happened in the past months. The Steward and the King are going to make such a wonderful team. Author Reply: I think it would be a bit of a rocky start at first, particularly on Faramir's end since he's not really used to his opinion being considered worth anything. But I think once they get over that initial barrier, they'll work great together. This was a fun one to write-- I don't do a whole lot involving Aragorn since he's basically out of the picture now on my insanely long Eowyn story, so it was nice to go back and work with him a little!

Yay!! Welcome back to the world of SOA, SMOR. And great work on tackling the difficult theme of the first meeting of Aragorn and Faramir. I absolutely agree with your personal take on the subject and enjoy how you've executed the telling of it. Tolkien left such a big gap by neglecting to show us much interaction between A and F. I've read various accounts by various fan fic writers. That you have the principle characters meet at a council and start their real relationship in a respectful, almost a business-like manner, is right on, realistic (sorry JRRT) and hints at a successful relationship between two powerful men with much in common. I'm glad that you've found your muse and returned to regale us with your tales of my favorite Gondorians. - Steff Author Reply: It must look like I've been on a writing binge, doesn't it? When I logged on last night to put this and the most recent chapter of AAOD up, I discovered that there were several one-shots on my hard drive that had been up on ff.net for a long time that I'd never put up here! But this one is very recent, so I guess you can say the muse is coming back. :) When I started work on the chapter I'm currently writing (the coronation), I realized that I just could not realistically make it work with Aragorn springing such a major bombshell on Faramir. So after several re-reads of this section of the chapter, I figured I'd treat it as one of those things that had simply gotten left out (much like the majority of AAOD turned out, I suppose.) So I'm glad to hear it works. Now I just need to catch up on Avoidance! Good to hear from you!
